California passes bill to study reparations
#21
Reparations to individuals for slavery is a terrible idea.

And how would the State of California owe anyone anything when they were not a slave state?

The labor force exploited to build California's economy was mainly poor people who lost their farms in the dust bowl (Okies) and later Mexican migrant workers.

The only case I could possibly see for individual reparations would be to the families of black people who were robbed of their wealth by the Freedman's Bank scam.  But only if records still existed.

That was a horrible injustice traceable to specific criminal activity.  Not just an "institution" carried out by a "nation" that effected millions of people in different ways.

Wouldn't it also set a horrible precedent considering slavery was deemed legal in America at the time?
