Choose the next Federal Holiday
#21
Unfortunately Election Day won't happen. Early voting opens up the chance for increased voter fraud and that's the only way democrats get elected. Top easy for fraud when you have a month to vote with no photo ID requirement.

1 day to vote, photo ID required, give everyone the day off.

New Years Day
MLK Day
Washington's Birthday (not Presidents Day)
Memorial Day
Independence Day
Labor Day
Columbus Day
Veteran's Day
Thanksgiving Day
Christmas

Interesting that most companies, especially ones without strong unions, only get 7 holidays - typically adding Good Friday and removing MLK, Columbus, Veteran's Day and President's Day.

You could argue Good Friday doesn't belong, but that's normally when schools are out so it makes sense because so many are taking vacations that week.

Agreed with combining Veteran's Day and Memorial Day.

Also agreed that maybe Columbus Day should be removed - offensive to Native Americans and somewhat redundant with Independence Day.

So I'm down to 6, but let's throw Washington's birthday back in there.  Get to work you lazy bums!!!

And you wonder why people don't take your opinions seriously?

We need to have one in the spring time.  March 17th comes to mind.  We should have a St. Patty's Federal holiday where everything is shut down so we can go drink green beer and celebrate our Irish heritage.  and come to think of it, maybe the day AFTER St. Patty's should be another federal holiday, so we can recoup from all that green beer.
Get rid of Columbus Day.  Seriously, what did that guy do besides bring disease and heartbreak to our Native Americans?
Change MLK day to Different Races day.

Yeah, we didn't add Good Friday, but that was our holiday list otherwise at Rosetta Stone. We had 6. Meanwhile, our UK office had 9, German 10, and Korea and Japan had 11.

To cap that off, I never got New Year or Independence Day off because of the timing tax-wise.

A lot of good ideas here. I like bfine's suggestions about Civil Rights Day and Armed Services Day. Frees us up for the First Responders Day.

A general Peace Day would be cool too to express the general sense of civil unity we are suppose to feel around Christmas time, but Christmas is fine. Most Americans are self identified Christians, so having a federal holiday for a major holiday of 75% of your employees makes sense. I've never been big on making holidays observed days off unless the local population makes it practical (like how my county observes Jewish holidays or how the next county over observes Eid).

State by state Cesar Chavez day is fine, but, at this point, it's not necessary for it to be a federal holiday. Changing MLK to Civil Rights Day respects all minorities (and not just in the ethnic/racial sense).

And because I am a teacher: a civil servants day.

Get rid of Christmas. Make it 'Buy your shitty family too much and go into crushing debt day', but place it on the the 3rd Friday of December rather than the 25th.

That's actually a good idea.  I'm willing to bet the loss of productivity, especially on the east cost, on that day is already staggering.

Halloween, because I'm all in favor of having a National drinking day holiday. Besides, it's all inclusive for the masses, because everyone is in costume. *bonus* even ugly people get laid because they may have decent bodies that look good in their costumes, or the drunkenness makes the objects in the mirror appear smaller than they really are..

Close 2nd, St. Paddy's day (for obvious drunken reasons)

Distant 3rd, National Porn Appreciation Day. (definite loss of productivity there..)

Actually I do not care what anyone thinks about my opinions... I'm not here trying to win a popularity contest. Just here to discuss thoughts on the news of the day. Whether anyone likes me or not is of no consequence. I am quite certain that there are enough people here who at least respect my positions and my ability to voice those positions.

Now on the topic ....
Can't see why being bothered at giving someone a month to do something that takes almost no time at all is so far fetched. And before you go into lines...... Absentee ballot if you live in an impossible location.

The extra time and lack of photo ID requirement just welcomes corruption. it's not a big deal to you until the GOP starts stuffing the ballots and bribing people with cigarettes and food to go vote.

If you can't vote in a 24 hour window you shouldn't be voting. Especially if we made it a holiday.

Heh, nothing like contradicting yourself in the span of two sentences.  BTW no one is trying to stop you from voicing your opinion so climb off the cross.

I think the issue at hand is your insanely stupid statement that voter fraud is the only way Democrats get elected.

Yeah because ACORN was a conservative group after all. Democrats kept losing until ACORN came around.

This is true, the Democrats only controlled the HoR from 1955 to 1995.  They also controlled the Senate the vast majority of the same time period.  Acorn came about in 1955 right?

haha yeah cause that's what I was talking about. But please go ahead and twist everything to try and show me up.

Obama won with his "new electorate" fueled by ACORN. What's sad is that had he not used ACORN and other groups like it then we probably would be on Hillarys term. I guess he did use these shenanigans to steal the office from the clintons.

We have a pretty big hispanic population here in 'Zona. But honestly haven't heard much call for it here.

Then again with how ultra-Right the politics are here now, there is probably a lot of fear about even suggesting it. Ninja

I think kids should go to school 12 months a year. We don't need them on the farms anymore and there is plenty of air conditioning. Get their little butts in there to learn something. Rant Rant Smack

So in your own post you admit that you were completely full of shit when you said the voter fraud, highlighted by the insidious ACORN, is the only way Democrats can win an election.  After all you just said without ACORN we'd be in year seven, almost eight, of president Hillary's term.  You're not even smart enough to keep up with your own bullshit.

I assumed you were not dumb enough to try to suggest that Democrats only win the White House because of voter fraud. Like SSF, I assumed you were referring to elections that are easier to sway, like the HOR and the Senate (especially during midterm elections).

But... no... you were indeed referring to the White House? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA, yes, I am sure ACORN and voter fraud spotted Obama those 9.5m votes over McCain.

HAHAHAHAHA
