DL worth Top 15 selection?
#41
Chris Rumph out of Duke now has my attention. Has all the intangibles Zac is looking for in a player and lives in the opponent's backfield. Only question is weight and can he hold another 10-20 punds as he matures.

I don't really see a top of the draft type of guy who would fit the mold. Rousseau scares me a little. There seems to be a lot of depth in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th rounds though, so I could see a move there.

DeAngelo Malone from Western Kentucky seems like a guy who's generating a lot of buzz. Guessing he ends up climbing draft boards, not as a top pick but in that mid range.

Lol.

They aren’t taking a 3 star recruit from duke, who is a 22 year old redshirt Jr with their first pick in the joe burrow era.

Hilarious you’d even suggest it

That's my thought too.

I don't see DL being taken in Rd 1 unless:
- Rousseau is available
- Bengals trade back in later half of 1st to acquire an extra Day 2 pick (or picks)

Now that the team beat TN, I'm having (false?) hope they may actually play into the 11-15 range instead of being in the 6-10 range.

Leatherwood if we pick in that range?

I obviously like him, as I've mocked him to Bengals before, but I'd also be fine with CB, OG (Davis), or even TE or WR, as crazy as that sounds.
I also like the OL options in Rds 2 and 3, which is why I can be ok skipping on OL in Rd 1, especially if the guard spots are decently solidified by the time the draft comes around.

I also really like the idea of trading back into the 20's and picking up an extra Day 2 pick.

Which TE’s would be worth taking in the middle of the 1st?

Pitts from Fla is freaky and a good red zone target as well.

Alex Leatherwood's draft stock has been falling a little recently while Christian Darrisaw is having a great year and climbing up the boards hard.

I'm with you on the trade back I think if they don't like any of the Offensive Line or Defensive Line options a trade back for an extra day 2 and a a day 3 pick is the best option.

Yep. Pitts is expected to be a stud pass-catching TE. He moves better than some WRs.
Also, Pat Freiermuth needs to be considered in the 16-25 range too. He's a complete TE. His nickname is Baby Gronk.
He's not quite the pass catcher that Pitts is, but he's a way better blocker.

Lol don't do that to me. You probably remember how much I loved Ragnow and had him much higher than Price and Daniels. I liked Daniels, but not in Pollack's scheme.

I said what I said because I don't think there will be a stud OL or DL that's that much different from their peers when the Bengals pick. About the only "stud" OL and DL I see in this draft (right now) is Sewell, and I think he's gone in the Top 5. Davis is probably a stud too, but I think the team can get by with XSF, Spain, and Jordan that I don't think they "need" to take a G-only guy in middle of Rd 1. I'd be happy with the pick if they did it though. I have Rousseau as about the only DL worth selecting in Top 15 but I think he goes Top 10.

Is Creed Humphrey on the level of Frank Ragnow coming out that he'd be a huge upgrade at C compared to what the Bengals have now? If so, I'm in on him in the teens, but I doubt the Bengals are looking at C in the 1st round based on all their other needs.

Not sure about top 15 but I like Wilson and Haskell. They both have good skill sets for the next level.

It's a shame that they would even be looking at the TE position this high in the draft, so soon after just taking one in the 2nd?? But yeah, we need a pass catching TE at some point.

I don't see DL worth a top pick just yet.  With Hubbard and Reader, the DL situation really isn't all that dire IMO - especially in the right scheme.  If I'm the Bengals, Pitts or Mayfield are who I'm targeting in the middle of the first.

Even when Hubbard and Reader were both on the field, they still weren't getting to the QB enough.
I do think scheme is a part of why, but they may want to stick with their defensive coaches.
They could another 1-2 pass rushers, but I don't see any right now worth taking in top half of the draft other than maybe Rousseau.
I really like the DL options on Day 2 though.

We need a pass rusher that can put up double digit sacks. Lawson is our best and he’s currently only on pace for 7. That’s not going to cut it.

Hubbard is a good player, but he just doesn’t get home enough.

Ojulari is growing on me. He has a great first step and moves upfield fast. I don't know if he is 'complete' but he passes my eye test as a specialist on obvious passing downs.

First round has to be somebody who can directly help Burrow. Be it catching passes or giving him more time to throw passes.

Can't get a 1st overall franchise QB and not surround him with all the help you can possibly get him. OL or TE almost has to be the pick (or WR if Chase is somehow available there).

There's times where it is okay to cruise through the draft with BPA. This will not be one of those times.
