Donald Trump Jr has posted a bizarre tribute to his father on Twitter featuring the President's face superimposed on a picture of George Washington holding a minigun.

Trump Jr posted the image to his 1.2 million followers on Instagram as the US celebrated Fourth of July on Wednesday.

'This is amazing. #fourthofjuly #4thofjuly #trump #maga,' he wrote alongside the post.

In the image, Trump can be seen grasping a minigun in his right hand as an eagle flaps its wings above his head.

The image was first produced for the Call of Duty Endowment, a fund set up by the popular video game franchise to help veterans get jobs after leaving the military.

The Endowment fund created the striking picture as a wallpaper image and were offering it as a prize for those who donated over $1 to the charity.

But it seems to have been adapted online with the addition of a minigun photoshopped into the President's right hand.

The original picture shows George Washington, US President from 1789 to 1797 holding an eagle while standing on a smouldering pile of lava as a US flag flutters behind him.

So far the post has been liked over 50,000 with the businessman's followers exploding in a wave of patriotic fervor.

'This is great! You know haters are gonna hate, lol,' One user commented.

While another said: 'Independence Day is the best with a true American at the helm!! MAGA!'

One person added: 'Now that's a portrait.'

And another commented: 'I want to hang this up in my home.'

But the meme is not the only controversial image Donald Jr has posted this week.

In the days running up to the Fourth, the President's eldest son took to Twitter to post a meme of Kermit the Frog ahead of the July 4th holiday that took aim at those who have been critical of Trump.

The meme features the Muppet character drinking tea with the message: 'Gonna be a lot of people celebrating the 4th who said they were moving to Canada a while ago'.

The President's son has endured a torrid year so far after being criticised for 'liking' tweets from Roseanne Barr's controversial racist Twitter rant about George Soros back in May.

Don Jr and ex-wife Vanessa, 40, also announced their decision to split after 12 years of marriage on March 15.

The businessman and ex reality TV star has been pictured in public with new girlfriend Kimberly Guilfoyle several times since.

That's not weird or anything.

Why is the flag behind Washington bigger than the flag behind trump?

The images are slightly different.

Call of Duty Endowment looks to be the best thing the CoD franchise has done in years. Then again that may not be saying much by looking at their yearly crappy game they release, but regardless kudos to them for doing this, as I didnt know about it.

Why would folk hate on the fact that a Son feels his dad is a patriot and wants to honor him on the day celebrating our independence?

I mean, I'm sure nobody in this forum would try to make that seem like a bad thing; I was just talking about society in general.

Because his dad was a draft dodger that refused to serve in the military, and he used the image of one of our greatest military heroes to "honor" him.

A major slap in the face to one of our founding fathers.

I'm sure GW would excuse a son's admiration for his father; regardless how flawed he is. I don't see him viewing it as a slap at all. I'd think he'd see it more as a compliment.

So General George Washington would be honored to have his image used to praise a draft dodger?

WTF dude?  You have completely lost it.

Where did I say he would be honored?

Yep, one of us has "completely lost it".

From what I’ve read about Washington and his appreciation for the military and command, I think he’d have taken trump out in the street and flogged him, both for deserting his country in a time of need and for idiotic statements like preferring soldiers that don’t get caught.

Most likely, but I was commenting on his thoughts about what he would think of a son trying to honor his father in such a manner. I know it's hard, but the point was not about Trump.

Probably, as other have mentioned, because he didn't do it with an actual picture of his father but rather used an actual patriot (and an image from a video game version of said patriot) with his father's head pasted on it.

Kinda sad.

But then his dad was golfing all day so he probably didn't have time to pose for a nice, patriotic photo with an eagle on his shoulder.

Just more TDS:  Trump Delusional Syndrome that affects so many who say they didn't vote for him, claim to have criticized him, and yet never ever fail to jump up to defend him in every situation.

I have done absolutely nothing to defend POTUS in this thread and even mentioned he was flawed. I don't expect you or others to recognize that fact, but it's a fact.

Subjectively, I think memes like that are dumb and I have to question anyone who thinks they're cool. I don't get the boners some people get over making it look like a draft dodger is in the military.

Same goes with any of the Bernie shit or people trying to make Hillary look cool. Dumb cult of personality shit.

How could it not be about Trump?  His draft dodging is what makes this all so disgusting.

It shocks me that you would think that George Washington would approve of his likeness being used to show what a great patriot a draft dodger like Trump is.

If Sean Penn's son had used Pat Tilman's image to show what a great patriot his dad is your head would be exploding right now.

This is all about Trump, and you know it.

It's about a son paying tribute to his father on Independence Day. You can be shocked all you want. It was a likeness taken from a video game. Ease off of the hate; you'll be happier in life.
