Does Russia force other countries into a Union against the will of their people?

A union where they give up controls of their borders, currency, and courts?

They did all this before..... it was called the Soviet Union. Now Russia works with its trading partners as obsidian nations.

Do you not have a problem since the EU is going down the same path as the Soviet Union?

If ya know what I mean.... Cool

How dare I speak up when I see the European Union going to same was a s the Soviet Union.

We are allowing a German version of the Soviet Union to grow. In the end his will force either the Soviet stares to reform or the EU will gobble them up.

No, they invade them and annex their land.

You prefer the socialist party in Germany. So it’s not much of a stretch. But if you want to say your a green or whatever then so be it.

Actually, I don't prefer the socialist party in Germany. I am a social democrat. Social democrat does not equate to socialist, and it is quite a bit of a stretch to call it that.

Yes, the referendum conducted by pro Russian Crimean groups that reported an 80% voter turnout while others suggested it was closer to 40%, which makes sense considering that all polling done in the years leading up to it put the actual support for joining Russia at 35-40%.

Regardless of a rigged referendum, you're complaining about sovereign nations willingly joining a union while supporting the use of force to annex territories from sovereign nations, a practice that also included ethnic cleansing in some cases.

It's just silly that you would even make that free will is worse than military invasions.

Individual countries accede to the European Union by becoming party to the founding treaties, thereby subjecting themselves to the privileges and obligations of EU membership. One of the criteria for becoming a member is acceptance of the obligations of membership, including EU law.

Sweden chose this, it wasn't forced upon them, and they can choose to leave if they'd like to.

This is like when conservatives get bent out of shape about their HOAs not letting them fly rebel flags from their porches.

Don't join clubs that have rules that you don't want to follow. It's not difficult.

Wait, you mean a country that hasn't had a free and fair election since 1990 manipulated a referendum vote to be in their favor?! I am shocked! Shocked, I say!

Stop using logic. That's just not allowed in today's society.

Guess its ok to invade and annex then.

But not ok for the EU to set economic policy for member states who joined for the advantages of said membership.

As what nations??

I don't see the EU going down the same path as the Soviet Union.  Where ever do you get that? Because some nations voted on a policy they are still free to reject, that is the same as occupying the Ukraine or invading Georgia???

Who is the EU dictator? Can the EU appoint and recall governors of member states as Putin can for the Russian Federation? Do journalists who criticize the EU end up mysteriously murdered?  Which billionaires go to jail and have their property confiscated for crossing Merkel or Macron??
