Impeachment?
#1
Just an old story I ran across when looking up other stuff.

https://www.politico.com/story/2014/07/poll-impeach-obama-support-33-percent-109369

Quote:One third of Americans think President Barack Obama should be impeached, a new poll says.

According to a CNN/ORC International poll released Friday, 33 percent of Americans think the president should be impeached and removed from office, compared with 65 percent who say they don’t support impeachment. Fifty-seven percent of Republicans say they support impeaching Obama, compared with just 35 percent of independent voters and 13 percent of Democrats.

When asked about when Congress should attempt to impeach a president, 79 percent of Americans said it should be used only if there is evidence of a serious crime — such as treason or bribery. Eighteen percent said impeachment could appropriately be used to registered dissatisfaction with White House policies.

A plurality of Americans — 45 percent — believe Obama has gone too far in expanding his presidential powers. Thirty percent said the president has been about right in terms of presidential powers, while 22 percent he has not gone far enough.

The numbers generally fall in line with CNN results from the past two presidencies — 30 percent of Americans support impeachment for former President George W. Bush in 2006 and 29 percent support impeachment for former President Bill Clinton in 1998.

In 2006, 48 percent of Americans said Bush had gone too far in expanding the powers of the presidency, compared with 34 percent who said he was about right and 14 percent who said he hadn’t gone far enough.

A Fox News poll released earlier this week reported that 36 percent of Americans favored impeaching Obama, compared with 61 percent who said they opposed impeachment.

The Democratic National Committee said Friday’s results show that the American are against both impeachment and the speaker’s lawsuit against Obama.

“As the CNN poll finds, the majority of Americans support the President taking action if Congress will not and they oppose the GOP’s sham lawsuit and talk of impeachment,” DNC national press secretary Michael Czin said in an email to POLITICO. “The American people want the President, and Congress, to tackle important issues, like commonsense immigration reform, equal pay and raising the minimum wage – so while Republicans waste time on political stunts, those are the issues the President and Democrats will continue to fight for.”

The CNN survey was conducted July 18-20 with 1,012 adults on landlines and cellphones. The margin for error is plus-or-minus 3 points.

It's almost like there is always a group from the other side that yell "impeachment" no matter what.  Weird.  I thought it was just crazy liberals who yell it from day one.  Mellow

MUSLIM name, and black SOCIALIST.

You conveniently left out that Obama tried to nuke Charleston, SC, to make it seem like hez not as bad as a guy who starts and unnecessary war and 4500 Americans and 150,000 Iraqis die in it.

Even if Obama were successful in nuking Charleston he still wouldn't be impeached because, as my pal Hannity says, therez a different standard for Democrats. Tongue

Did I miss the statistic or does this article not say what percentage of the whole survey wanted to impeach Obama? They gave the total number for every president, all around 29 to 33%, but then only gave the partisan figures for Obama (57% of Republicans etc).

EDIT: Oops, misread that it was an old poll. So the 33% is for Obama, not Trump. My mistake.

I'm curious what the percentage for Trump would be right now.

It was 43% in December: https://www.cnn.com/2018/12/13/politics/trump-impeachment/index.html

I'd assume that polling is being done right now and we will see another dip. I'm expecting it to remain slightly higher than the past four presidents, though.

Yea, ~37 or 38% is what I was expecting. Mueller's Report should almost certainly drop it into the mid to high 30s.

I'm of the opinion that impeachment should be reserved for actual crimes rather than "this dude's a piece of shit" which I think a lot of people cite for why they want to Impeach Trump (not that I disagree, just that I don't think that's enough to justify impeachment.)

I would say the crazy ones are the ones who yell for impeachment before the oath is even taken.

That was the jist of the article (and the comment I made).  While each side is slamming the "angry" OTHER side for talking about impeachment the actual percentage of people who listen and believe it remains about the same no matter which party and no matter what they have been accused of.

I would agree and there are those of both parties that did/do.  The Clinton impeachment brought it back to the forefront and now we are in a cycle where each side wants to claim the new POTUS (of the other party) did something "worse" than Clinton.

And yet, it does matter what they have been accused of.

Demanding impeachment because a president started an unnecessary war with cooked intel
is not the same as demanding impeachment because of an economy that only grew 2% a year and BENGHAZI BENGHAZI BENGHAZI!!!!

We need to push deeper than "both sides do it."

I'm not taking the politics out of it by any means.  I'm saying that politics or not, "legitimate" reasons or not, the actual numbers for public support of the idea remains just about constant.

And we fall into the trap of "the other side is worse" arguments when our side is in office.  So there are posts and arguments (here and elsewhere on the interwebs) about how Party A is THE WORST and is NOTHING like Party B because "we" didn't do that.

Yes, yes they did.

And it's been going on for years.

one side relies on antagonizing an anti-intellectual faction of their base that clearly lacks cognitive tools.   that side has been deliberately growing that faction by cutting education spending for the 30 years.
