Joe Burrow Injury Update
(11-23-2020, 05:08 PM)Wes Mantooth Wrote: Not that I'm speculating on any of this injury recovery stuff, but you should be careful assuming everyone is a grown man.

I, for example, identify as a pansexual transexual elf from the Lolly Pop Guild.  And on my birthdays I identify as Unicorn named Barthlomew.

Please be kind.  Is it that hard?

Well I did say "mostly".

BTW, Happy Birthday

Zac Taylor: "We expect him to have surgery and rehab and full recovery and be ready for the 2021 season."

I'd bet money that he's a tick slower (I don't have before/after sprint times to prove it, though.)

I've really lost an awful lot of respect for medical practitioners over the course of this thread.

Not sure why they take so much time and money studying when diagnosing the impact and recovery of a major trauma on a complex joint can be done by spending 5 minutes looking at twitter, you tube, etc.. Wink

As long as the meniscus and cartilage is ok he should be fine.  ( months is about what I was expecting based on what I saw).

When Zac Taylor uses the term "We", does that mean he is implying that he will be back for the 2021 season as well?

First the Burrow news, then this.

This is definitely turning out to be a Monday.

Well he damn sure is not referring to Jungle noise when he says "we".

Half those folks have this as a career ending injury.

I don't get why your say this just to be argumentative. Everyone just heard the news that the MRI outcome was worse than hoping for a franchise QB. And I think you might not be putting too much emphasis on that "barring setback" statement. Regardless of current medical tech and the number of players you can point at that have went through this, the more damage there was the higher the risk that recovery time is extended or that he's never able to become the same player.

You know exactly why people are concerned that this could be a serious impact on his future ability. If you want to live in the sunshine future that this is all trivial and he'll be back better than before that's wonderful for you.

When you're dealing with facts, science and precedent, you have a pretty-good idea of things are/will turn out.

Break down the, "worse than initially-hoped," statement; how is it worse? Why is it worse?

"The MCL is injured too! And structural damage! Woe is us!"

So? If the timeline for something to heal is 6 months, it's 6 months, unless the person has an immune system issue or is diabetic; just like women have their period every 28 days (give or take) and ***** Sapien births take 9 months (give or take a few weeks), if Joe eats right, rehabs correctly and doesn't do anything stupid (which he won't), IE there aren't any anomalies (or in this case, setbacks) he'll heal in the allotted time and be ready to go.

Extra damage means nothing, unless it takes longer to heal (which in Joe's case, it doesn't). The reason why guys like Bridgewater and Smith had such a long and grueling rehab, is due to injuring tissue that takes longer to heal than an ACL (Bridgewater) and an anomaly (Smith).

This is why people really need to get informed and do some legwork research on their own, instead of just reading blanket statements and assuming the worst.

It is exasperating to see people fly off the handle, especially with what happened yesterday.

EDIT* Oh for the love of God, I can't write the shortened version of, "Homogenized?" (that's not what it means, but it'll tell you what word was starred out lol)

Second Edit: This is an excellent article that breaks down Bridgewater's injury, without getting too technical or difficult to understand.

After reading this, you can see that Joe's injury isn't even in the same realm.

I think the wrath from fans due to Burrow's injury from all ends of the earth is lugubrious to the point not even Taylor and his boyish innocence can hide the fact his job is in jeopardy.

May be longer than 9 months for recovery depending on rehab and surgery but Taylor would not say Start of 2021 season...

ACL/MCL is a Wentz type injury. 8 months is basically August. 9 would be September. Assuming nothing goes sideways (infection, set back, etc).

But I think the "other structural damage" part has got folks spooked. And rightly so. WTF does that mean?

Anyway, nothing is gonna change with Brown in charge. He should step down. Katie & hubby should be stripped of all personnel decision making authority, and Duke, ZT, Lou, and Turner all need to go.

I believe Burrow will recover and play well again. He just seems to have that kind of never give up, hard working aura about him. While I know this is a more serious Injury and a different position, AP tore his acl and came back to win MVP. And a RB relys on his knees more than a QB.

While that would be interesting, the CJ guys have no more insight than we do.

It's just speculation and hopes, at this point.
