Justice Ginsburg dies

Didn’t agree with a lot, but she served honorably, and has been a terrific role model. Hearing her and Scalia were best of friends was a great lesson for me.

The fight to replace her before the election is going to be just awful.

I already find myself getting angry about this. Not because I know what this means for the court, but because of how fast we will see McConnell move to confirm a Trump nominee after what he did to Obama with Garland.

RIP RBG.

RIP RBG.

That’s what I mean. I thought the Garland thing was ridiculous, but everything politicians say has an expiration date.

Ruth Ann Ginsberg was great person who served the people of this country for many decades, much like Anthony Scalia. As divisive as our politics are right now, my wish (as it was with Scalia) is that we remember that a human being has died and mourn appropriately.

May her memory be a blessing.

Indeed. I am going to take the weekend, though, and not discuss the political implications. I am just going to remember her for her service and on Monday I will think more about the politics. Or at least talk more about it, it's going to be hard to not think about.

Her passing on Rosh Hashanah was some interesting timing. She was a dedicated servant to the people and the law.

RIP. An exemplary American.

I’m with Mat. Hoping to take time to honor her memory before taking on the anger of what comes next.

So much for mourning, eh.

Well, it's Mitch. He's pretty much treated the government like a cash machine. He's ran for a few decades on the importance of coal... while he personally cashes in on getting rid of it.

As to RBG, she did what she felt was right without rose colored glasses. The world would be a better place if everyone did that.

I reckon he has probably had that typed up for months 'just in case'.

Viewing this a different way:

I'm no fan of Trump. That is no secret to anyone. And, I wasn't excited about his prior two choices. But, they have proven to be anything but the party-line "yes men" many critics thought they would be. Sure, I haven't agreed with all of the things they sided on. But I have agreed on some.

In short, maybe a third Trump pick would not be the "end of the world"?

Personally, trump's picks arent socially conservative. Trump realigning the whole court wouldn't necessarily move the needle in either social direction. This is likely not the end of abortion conservatives have been seeking.

It is a pretty solid tilt to fiscal conservatives though, if another trump pick is approved. More 'corporations have rights but mostly just immunities.'

Which still baffles me that christians support that.

You and me both. Also, the manifestation has been, "The bigger the corporation, the more rights they have." Which is why Mom and Pop shops are gone and Walmart and Amazon have bright futures. We get a handful of mega-corporations controlling literally everything and stifling competition. Stifling competition means stifling creativity, which feeds competition. To me, that seems contrary to the basic principles of capitalism (and certainly does nothing for freedom... but that ship may have already sailed years ago anyway.)
