MegaKota!
#1
Apparently, there is a petition to combine North and South Dakota and name the new state "MegaKota".

Now, normally I couldn't care less. But that name! What sort of juvenile morons thought that up? Beavis and Butthead?

Vote it down just because of the name, I say!

There is actually a problem with the Dakotas because of perception.

You have North and South Dakota but the perception is that South Dakota is actually warmer than North Dakota and North Dakota see this as a problem because of tourism and people wanting to move there.

IT'S THE DAKOTAS...NO ONE WANTS TO LIVE IN EITHER!

I'm with you on ND. But Western SD is not bad.  Got the Black Hills and Badlands.

That way we could let PR in as a state and still have 50. It's all about 50 with me.

I don't see the powers that be letting PR become a state unless they can find a way to do so without giving them the right to vote, as well.

They probably let people vote on the proposed new name.

As soon as you let people get involved with voting things go haywire.

They should be given the option of statehood or independence.  But I guess that could open up a can of worms with other territories.

They should have been a state 50 years ago. They probably would have had more support if their main language (at that time) was English and if their predominant skin color was lighter. Like it or not, there are some in our country who hold those things against people.

It's a small sample size for sure, but when I was in college I knew few Puerto Ricans... They wanted no part of statehood, and would only half jokingly say that they needed to get rid of us.

Also if they weren't swimming in debt, crime, corruption, and a failing infrastructure (before it started getting rebuilt after the hurricane).
In 2014 Louisiana led the 50 states with an 11.7 per 100,000 homicide rate. In 2014 Puerto Rico was at 18.5 per 100,000.

...but besides all that, the REAL most important reason is: Do you know how much of a hassle changing every single American flag, and picture/reference of an American flag to 51 stars would be? Ain't nobody got time for that.  Ninja

Statistics were a little different fifty years ago.

I believe I addressed the 50 states which unintentionally led us from Megakota to Puerto Rico. With great power comes great responsibility, and I must learn to be more restrained with mine.
