New PPP Poll
#1
It's some rather interesting numbers: http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/main/2017/08/trump-holds-steady-after-charlottesville-supporters-think-whites-christians-face-discrimination.html

Here is the full pdf: http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/pdf/2017/PPP_Release_National_82317.pdf

I'm going through the results (it's a lengthy document) and the first thing I find rather amazing, is that the approval rating for Trump among Jill Stein voters is second only to his own voters. They are at 54%.

Full disclosure: PPP is a Democratic polling firm. They do have a favorable reputation on accuracy, most polling firms do, even if they do sway one way or the other (Rasmussen is a good example on the right). But, this can color results and so must be viewed through that lens.

One interesting thing I find with most polls is that while say 39% support keeping Confederate statues it doesn't tell us why.

Although other results can give us a hint:

Quote:Trump voters say they would rather have Jefferson Davis as President than Barack Obama 45/20.

I'd probably fall under "I don't care" if asked by a pollster about the statues...but it's more nuanced than that obviously.

That is surprising. I thought they were all 'save the leaves' and stuff.

The Green Party is more about consumer and worker rights. Essentially, take the things that the Democrats have left behind after abandoning the New Deal and becoming Republican Lite and make that into a party, and there you have it. I think that is why we are seeing that. They are going to be more left than Trump and establishment Republicans on on social issues, but the populist messaging Trump espouses will appeal to them. Unfortunately, what he has done policy-wise doesn't match up, but still.

I was a Stein voter, but I don't fall into that group even remotely.

Not everyday you see a decently respected polling firm fail to cover their bias this badly.

"PPP's newest national poll finds that Donald Trump's approval rating is pretty steady in the wake of the Charlottesville attack, probably because his supporters think that whites and Christians are the most oppressed groups of people in the country"

"Asked what racial group they think faces the most discrimination in America, 45% of Trump voters say it's white people followed by 17% for Native Americans with 16% picking African Americans, and 5% picking Latinos. Asked what religious group they think faces the most discrimination in America, 54% of Trump voters says it's Christians followed by 22% for Muslims and 12% for Jews."

A non-majority of respondents who said they supported X also believe Y, so their support X must be tied in Y.

Why? Just Cause.

You are expressing the reason I usually skim past their opinions on the results and just look at the numbers. LOL
