Punt Returner Watch
#1
With Phillips on IR (and frankly probably regardless even if he were healthy), the Bengals have the following guys going through punt return drills today:
- Trent Taylor
- Tyler Boyd
- Trenton Irwin

Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Patience has paid off!

Get Boyd off that list, we cannot afford him to get hurt returning punts.

I was thinking that too, but he's relegated to WR3 basically now, so there may be less risk.

Since they run with 3 WR most of the time, Boyd #3 is still vitally important to the success of this team.  They do not want to lose him at all

Higgins is still dealing with an ankle, so IMO it's a huge risk.

Yes, but if all 3 of Higgins, Chase, and Boyd are out there, it's most often going to Chase, then Higgins, then Boyd.

My top choice is Taylor out of the 3, but I don't think it's crazy if Boyd were to take a few PRs a game.

At least it won't be Phillips.   49ers only score 10 points on Bengals Defense if not for Phillips.  Bengals win 20 to 10 and no overtime.  He should never catch another punt for Bengals.

He won't ever be active on this roster again. He will be gone soon..

You don't know that.
Just because a turnover doesn't happen doesn't mean a team wouldn't score points on their next possession.

we also cant afford more punts going back to the other team

We used to use a starting CB occasionally with Adam Jones

Pittsburgh had no hesitation putting their #1 (A. Brown) back there.

If he's the best option, run him out there.

Wouldn't "Mo" land back on Taylor then?

Eeny - Taylor
Meany - Boyd
Miney - Irwin
Mo - Back to Taylor

Yes, well, I had Irwin at the top.

I see that you know how to spell it. I wasn't certain about Eeny and Miney.

"Mo" is Stanley Morgan who returns kick offs. (or attempts to)

In all seriousness, a returner who actually catches the ball would be a marked improvement. If they get any yards or not is a whole other subject.
