Reds July 2023 thread
(07-15-2023, 05:11 PM)cinci4life Wrote: Burnes has a near 4 ERA and given up the 2nd most runs among Brewers pitchers only behind their starter today Peralta. Earlier when they faced the Dodgers Gonsolin they scored 4 runs on him while he came into that game with a 1.77 ERA. Burnes is a good pitcher but not a world beater and there is just no excuse to come out of the all star break with a dud like that.

This is an extremely young team and only the veterans have faced Burnes. He's pretty much had the best cutter in baseball for the last few years . . .  you don't see the best cutter in baseball in the minors. He made them look really, really stupid . . . not just the bad swings, the non-swings on fastballs right over the plate.

I wouldn't doubt it if they were told to take pitches just to try to drive up the pitch count against Burnes to get him out of the game early.

They had back to back stinkers vs Kershaw and Montgomery(St Louis) and, to be honest . . . they've missed a lot of other teams Aces.

In Burnes three starts, his averages per nine innings pitched
2.50 ERA
3.5 hits
2.5 walks
13 strikeouts
Only users lose drugs.

3 straight games being shutout. Painful and pathetic.

I've got it figured out. The new and improved hitting strategy is to not swing at anything in the strike zone. Only bring bat off the shoulder on stuff eye high, a foot outside, or in the dirt. And they're going to stick with it no matter what.

The last time the Reds were shut out in 3 consecutive games was April 3rd to 5th 2019. We lost 1-0 to Milwaukee and a pair of 2-0s vs. Pittsburgh. 12 total hits, 30 total Ks.

This series of 3 shutouts was worse, with just 7 hits and 44 total Ks.

Before that, it hadn't happened since 1989 (also in April)

This is, genuinely, the worst offensive performance in a 3 game stretch in my lifetime (born July 1989).

If they don't snap out of it quick; as in like this week quick, I'm not selling any prospect capital for pitching.  They need to be on fire to deviate from the plan.  other wise, it's premature.

Greene and Lodolo should be back in August.  Let it play out.

A cold streak is a gift and a curse.  it would suck to see this team waste the momentum they gained in the first half, but if it keeps them from foolishly selling off young, controllable talent, then so be it.

Every one of these guys better be downtown or in Mainstrasse looking for a slump buster tonight. Anything under 220 doesn't count. Take one for the team.

Basically the same lineup today. 5 of the 9 have decent numbers against Houser so we'll see how it goes.

Only been the top of the 1st but there is a wide strike zone already. Probably a better than average chance that someone gets tossed before this is over.

Knew it was coming. Bell just got ejected. Counsell might not be far behind. He already was yelling at the home plate ump from the dugout.

This Brewers infield has saved, conservatively, 5 runs in the 6 games we've played in these 3 series via outstanding defensive plays.

It's frustrating.
