Tennessee just past a law making sex robots built to look like children illegal.
I think I may have posted a similar thread regarding CGI child pornography that looked real, but what are your thoughts on this?
One side said it encourages rape of children. The other side says that pedophilia is a ingrained sexual preference just like homosexuality that can not be "cured". They say that these people should not be punished for satisfying their sexual desires with robots. They even say that allowing them this option may prevent the rape of children.
In my parent's generation homosexuality was considered "strange".
In my generation homosexuality is pretty much accepted but transgender is still considered "strange".
In my teenage children's generation transgender is pretty much accepted but pedophilia is still considered "strange".
The act of having sex with a child will never be accepted the way homosexual acts between consenting adults are, but I feel that in the next generation they will recognize pedophiles as people with an alternate sexual preference who will be allowed any outlet they desire short of having sex with an actual child.

Need data on this. I remember debates about the legalization of porn back in the early '70s. Some Danish study found that rape and other sex crimes went down in urban centers where pornography was legalized. I think that has since been countered. Not sure.
Anyway, one advantage of having states with separate laws is that we can get some comparative data. Until we have that, I have no opinion either way.

A meta-analysis done in 1995 found that pictorial nudity decreased aggressive behavior, but consumption of depictions of both violent and non-violent sexual activity increase aggressiveness, with the former to a higher degree than the latter.

Also found this study in 2009: Christopher J. Ferguson, Richard D. Hartley, The pleasure is momentary…the expense damnable?: The influence of pornography on rape and sexual assault, Aggression and Violent Behavior, Volume 14, Issue 5, 2009, Pages 323-329, ISSN 1359-1789, https://doi.org/10.1016/j.avb.2009.04.008.
It discusses the strong correlational relationship I mentioned above, and agrees with it, but stops short of making causal claims due to the weak evidence for it. Though the abstract does go on: "Victimization rates for rape in the United States demonstrate an inverse relationship between pornography consumption and rape rates. Data from other nations have suggested similar relationships. Although these data cannot be used to determine that pornography has a cathartic effect on rape behavior, combined with the weak evidence in support of negative causal hypotheses from the scientific literature, it is concluded that it is time to discard the hypothesis that pornography contributes to increased sexual assault behavior."

It’s a tough call. I don’t think there is a “cure” for pedophilia just like there isn’t a cure for heterosexuality or homosexuality. It’s what you are, problem for pedophiles is we can never make it acceptable. Pre-pubescent children need to always be off limits. So as distasteful as robots or CGI are, it may be our best hope of controlling pedophilia.

I'm right there with you. It really is a tough situation to look at.
