He did vote against Truman's Civil Rights proposal, but once he became vice president he was very active in pushing the CRA through congress.

Your quote (which is pure rumor by two other men btw) was meant to lead people to believe he was a racist bigot.  That is simply not true.   Now I am not excusing his use of racial slurs, lets be clear on that. I suggest that you read the article.

I read that and saw that when I first came across the quotes. I have another that will add to this.

As far as him being a racist Bigot.... Not sure who else uses those terms but racists. All I said was that he was anti civil rights for almost his whole life. Every president has their good, bad and ugly. These are just more of his ugly. We shouldnt be in fantasy land thinking that any preaident didnt do bad things.

I apologize I did go back and edited this post that you quoted to clarify. It was more to the fact that he recognized his own racism as being "wrong minded" so to speak.  I think to put it more succinctly he wanted to be on the right side of history despite his personal views.  I do agree with you though that every president their "good, bad and ugly".  I really did think this link was interesting http://www.msnbc.com/msnbc/lyndon-johnson-civil-rights-racism. Try not to dismiss it out of hand because of the source, the article lays into LBJ pretty hard, I was surprised.
Why are so many people debating in this "game" thread?

- Coolidge...didn't do much of anything to help prevent the depression before handing it over to Hoover.  He was a president, it was declared, for the "haves", and not the "have-nots".

I did actually expect most of the recent presidents to be eliminated early on in the game, considering that these are the guys that we all know the most about and have formed strong opinions on.

Only 4 presidents from the last 50 years remain, and Nixon is somehow the one farthest away from elimination.

-1 Millard Fillmore - One of the invisible presidents that never really knew much about. He opposed immigration as the leader of the Know Nothings. Kinda forced the modern two party system (that sucks balls) into existence.
+1 Barack Obama - Socialized healthcare is a good thing, and he started us on that path. Every citizen deserves to have their health assured, and since it wasn't like that in a capitalist system, having the government step in is great. Though Obama has not done as much for it as I had hoped.
