SErebel11 mock
#1
Posting for our newest member, SErebel11.

The Bengals off-season has been less than stellar. Key losses in free agency on the offensive line and the Adam Jones situation has caused some disarray. I also feel like the Bengals panicked and over-paid for the services of Kirkpatrick. With that said, I think there is some hope that the Bengals can turn things around in the draft along with adding 2 of their picks that never saw the field last season due to injury. It is key that the Bengals move around some in the draft to address their roster. I know it takes two to tango but there are situations that I feel can possibly exploited to obtain picks up and down that can be foreshadowed.

IF Romo signs with Denver after being released then Houston is the odd man out. They currently have a roster that can compete for the playoffs in a perceived weaker division. With that said, they could certainly target a QB in the draft but with Cle, Ariz picking ahead of them needing a signal caller and KC having the draft pick currency to move ahead of them to grab a QB if they are so inclined, they are in a situation.

I feel like a McCarron trade to Houston is a real possibility. I understand that could be an issue with the OL as it stands but with Houston in dire straits, take advantage.

Bengals trade A.J. McCarron and pick #138 to Houston for #25

2017 Mock draft

#1 Cle selects Myles Garrett, Edge, Texas A&M
Cleveland selects the #1 ranked prospect in the class and gets a defensive lineman with tremendous upside to build their defense around.

#2 SF selects Solomon Thomas, Edge, Stanford
This is a spot where SF would love to trade down and get a haul like the Titans did last season but I don’t see it in the cards for them. Allen’s shoulders and combine paired with them drafting Armstead and Buckley, doesn’t seem to be a fit. Signing Hoyer signals that they are going to find a QB in later rounds to develop. They could go with Jamal Adams but they have some talent there. I think they go with one of the highest floored players in the draft that can fit in with their other previous DL picks.

#3 Chi selects Jamal Adams, S, LSU
Chicago just paid Mike Glennon a fortune (basically bidding against themselves) to be their starting QB. With that said, they can release him after year 1 and only take a 4.5m cap hit and in year 2 a million dollar cap hit so this could be a temporary fix while developing a QB. I don’t think they take that guy in this spot and they go with Adams to help their secondary.

#4 Jax selects Leonard Fournette, RB, LSU
Jacksonville has added some more help on the defensive side of the ball through free agency with Church, Campbell and Bouye. They add a tailback that can help move the offense forward and take some of the pressure off of a turnover prone QB.

#5 Ten selects Mike Williams, WR, Clemson
The Titans biggest off-season concerns were the secondary and a big time weapon at WR for Mariotta. They signed Logan Ryan and Cyprien which allows them to wait a bit later in the draft to address another CB in this draft with a ton of depth at that position.

#6 NYJ selects Marshon Lattimore, CB, Ohio State
The Jets are likely going to reach an agreement with Jay Cutler or Josh McCown so they go CB here with Lattimore. With Revis and his release there is a need for a new sheriff to be in town on the outside.

#7 LAC selects Malik Hooker, S, Ohio State
The Chargers need major help at safety and while they have a history of not valuing the position I think the loss of Weddle may be enough to change their position on this.

#8 Car selects John Ross, WR, Washington

Carolina was hoping to grab Fournette in this spot but they grab the fastest player in the combine and a weapon to develop for Cam Newton.

(Trade with Arizona) Cincinnati trades pick #9 to Arizona for #13 and #77

#9 (from Cincinnati) Ari selects DeShone Kizer, QB, Notre Dame
Arizona jumps ahead of Buffalo and Cleveland to select the heir apparent to Carson Palmer. Big arm QB that will fit Arizona’s system.

(Trade with Cleveland) Buffalo trades #10 to Cleveland for #12, #108, #175

#10 Cle selects Deshaun Watson, QB, Clemson
Cleveland uses a couple of picks to move up to spots to grab the guy that they covet at QB.

#11 NO selects Derek Barnett, Edge, Tennessee
New Orleans needs a lot of help on the defensive side of the ball. They go with an edge rusher that was very productive in his SEC career.

#12 (from Cle) Buf selects Corey Davis, WR, Western Michigan
Buffalo needs a ton of help in the WR position and they grab the best route runner in the class and arguably the best WR in the class.

(Trade with Detroit) Cin trades pick #13 and #176 to Det for picks #21 and #53

#13 (from Cin) Det selects Jonathan Allen, DT, Alabama

An average combine and medicals cast enough of a shadow for him to fall. Detroit ,who is in dire need of a solid DT, cannot pass up the value and makes the move to this spot to grab this former top 5 talent.

#14 Phi selects Dalvin Cook, RB, FSU
Phi signed Torrey Smith and Alshon Jeffery in the free agent signing period so to add even more fire to the offense they select a tailback that can play every down and be Wentz’s best friend.

(Trade with TB) Ind trades #15 to TB for #19 and #84

#15 (from Ind) TB selects OJ Howard, TE, Ala
Tampa slides up into this spot to grab the best TE on the board and possibly the highest rated player left on their board. It should come as no surprise because Winston needs more weapons.

#16 Bal selects Haason Reddick, LB, Temple
Baltimore adds an explosive, athletic linebacker that can play multiple positions in a 3-4. He has flew up the boards after the senior bowl and he had a superb combine.

#17 Was selects Jabrill Peppers, S, Michigan
Washington added some depth on the defensive line in free agency but needs to add some depth to the secondary. Peppers is versatile and can play a lot of roles in the defense making him valuable enough to select in this spot.

(Trade with Oak) Ten trades #18 to Oak for picks #24 and #88
#18 (from Ten) Oak selects Christian McCaffery, RB , Stanford
Oakland decides to trade up and select McCaffery. After losing their starting tailback in free agency, they decide to add a piece that can be an every down back.

#19 Ind selects Reuben Foster, LB, Alabama
Indianapolis needs to infuse some youth and athleticism to their linebacker core so they grab the linebacker with the most upside on the board in Foster.

#20 Den selects Ryan Ramczyk, OT, Wisconsin
Denver needs offensive linemen to keep Romo upright. They grab Ramczyk here to help solidify the tackle position left by releasing Okung.

#21 (from Det) Cin selects Taco Charlton, DE, Michigan
Cincinnati selects an edge that fits their system. Charlton is solid at setting an edge and in the run game. He has a lot of upside as a pass rusher and would be a welcome addition to the 4 man front.

#22 Miami selects Marlon Humphrey, CB, Alabama
Miami needs help in the secondary and they choose a long CB that has the tools to be a cb1.

#23 NYG selects David Njoku, TE, Miami
The Giants add Marshall to go with Beckham Jr and Shepard and now they find a dynamic TE to further aid their passing attack.

#24 (from Oak) Ten selects Gareon Conley, DB, Ohio State
Tennessee grabs the best CB left on the board and furthers the remake of their secondary. He will fit well with Ryan on the other side.

#25 (from Hou) Cin selects Forrest Lamp, OG, Western KY
Cincinnati needs to improve their offensive line and they grab a high floor/high ceiling interior line force that will immediately help.

#26 Seattle selects Cam Robinson, OT, Alabama
Seattle adds an offensive line piece that is one of the better tackles in this class. He is also one of the best run blockers in the class and has some versatility.

#27 KC selects Mitchell Trubisky, QB, UNC
Trubisky is a one year starter that can come in and sit behind Alex Smith for a season or two until it is time for him to take the helm.

#28 Dal selects Adoree’ Jackson, CB, USC
Dallas needs help in the secondary due to free agency and they have been tied to Jackson. I think it is a bit early for this kid but Dallas has a history of going for who they want even if it is not perceived a value.

#29 GB selects Tre’davious White, CB, LSU
Green Bay needs a lot of help in the secondary and they select an LSU corner that can come in and compete for a starter spot on day 1 of the season.

#30 Pit selects Charles Harris, DE/OLB, Missouri
Pittsburgh needs to add a pass rusher with some youth and they grab one of the best pass rushers in this class.

#31 Atl selects Dan Feeney, OG, Indiana
Atlanta needs to solidify the RG position and Feeney is available and likely to go in this range given the dearth of talent in this OL class.

#32 (from NE) NO selects Malik McDowell, DT, MSU
NO selects the highest rated player on the board. He is young and has some character concerns but the talent is undeniable.

#41 Cin selects Caleb Brantley, DT, Florida
Cincinnati selects a defensive tackle that is stout in the running game and can gain penetration. He is not a stout pass rusher but will be a good rotational guy to go with the rest of the DLine unit.

#53 (from Det) Cin selects Joe Mixon, RB, Oklahoma
Cincinnati has never been shy on giving second chances and with the addition of several picks they take a chance on a first round talent here.

#73 Cin selects Jourdan Lewis, CB, Michigan
The Bengals add a CB that I feel will drop into the third round due to his height. He projects to be a slot CB that can play outside some also. Very competitive player with an edge and is solid in run support. Pick makes a lot of sense with KirkPatrick and Jackson on the outside.

#77 (from Ari) Cin selects Roderick Johnson, OT, FSU
Johnson has all the physical tools to be a good OT but his technique is lacking. High character guy that would work hard to improve his craft.

#116 Cin selects Kendall Beckwith, ILB, LSU

The Bengals get a value here at pick 116 due to injury. Beckwith is coming off an ACL injury that knocks him from a 2nd/3rd round pick to a 4th round comp pick. With the slew of picks in this draft given the trades made and comp picks they can take a chance on this kid.

#153 Cin selects Chad Kelly, QB, Ole Miss
Developmental QB that is coming off of injury that can be stashed on IR without affecting numbers.

#193 Cin selects Robert Davis, WR, Georgia State
WR from a small school with superb measurables and has a lot of upside. Could be a steal at this pick.

#217 Cin selects Zane Gonzalez, K, Arizona St
Consensus top K in the draft and Groza winner.

#227 Cin selects Treyvon Hester, DT, Toledo
Developmental DT that had good size and some athleticism.

#251 Cin selects selects Xavier Woods, SS, La Tech
Tough nosed football player that would push for a roster spot for special teams and a backup role at SS.

Pre-draft : Bengals trade A.J. McCarron to Houston for pick #25

Houston misses out on Romo and decide that McCarron is their best option with 2 years left on his deal. It makes more sense to give up their first round pick than to trade up and mortgage their future for a suspect QB class.

Bengals 2017 mock draft

Cin trades pick #9 to Was for #17 and #49
Reasoning: #9 (from Cin) Was selects Jonathan Allen, DT, Alabama

Washington moves up to grab Allen in this spot. Their rush defense needs major improvement to deal with Elliott and that offensive line and they get the help they need with this pick.

(from Was) #17 Cin selects Ryan Ramczyk, OT, Wisconsin
Cincinnati really has serious issues with the offensive line and Ramczyk could be the answer at LT. Dalton has to be protected and that should have been the top priority to start with this off-season.

Cin trades #25 to Atl for picks #31 and #95
Reasoning: ATL selects Forrest Lamp, OG, Western KY

Atlanta needs a right guard to improve their offensive line and they trade ahead of Seattle to grab a high floor/high ceiling interior line force that will immediately help.

#31 Cin selects selects Malik McDowell, DT/DE, MSU
Cin selects the highest rated player on the board. He is young and has some character concerns but the talent is undeniable. He can play on the edge or inside and is extremely athletic. Would fill the role of Gilberry in the defense.

#41 Cin selects Chidobe Awuzie, CB, Colorado
Cornerback with 1st round ability that falls into the 2nd round due to the depth of the secondary positions in the draft.

#49 (from WAS) Cin selects Zay Jones, WR, ECU
Wide receiver that dominated the senior bowl and had a great combine. Huge catch radius and very productive in college.

#73 Cin selects Joe Mixon, RB, Oklahoma
Cincinnati has never been shy on giving second chances and with the addition of several picks they take a chance on a first round talent here.

#95 Cin selects Demarcus Walker, DE, FSU
Another defensive line piece that has a lot of upside.

#116 Cin selects Alex Anzalone, OLB, Florida
The Bengals get a value here at pick 116. Anzalone is a talented linebacker with coverage skills.

#138 Cin selects Jeremy Sprinkles, TE, Ark
More of a conventional TE that can block and catch passes. Pretty safe pick.

#153 Cin selects Chad Kelly, QB, Ole Miss
Developmental QB that is coming off of injury that can be stashed on IR without affecting numbers.

#176 Cin selects Sidney Jones, CB, Washington
CB that tore an achilles and can also be stashed on IR for a season without effecting numbers.

#227 Cin selects Ifeadi Odenigbo, DE, Northwestern

Pass rushing specialist for NW that could be a good developmental player/ practice squad

#251 Cin selects Joe Williams, RB, Utah
Controversial RB that gave up on football then came back. Has a wealth of talent and worth a flyer given the volume of picks the Bengals have.

I just don't think it Cincinnati Bengals are this creative for the draft. With that said I think Taco is their guy. Maybe Davis or Reddick.

It's cute, but the Bengals very rarely trade around. I can't imagine them doing it twice in the first round. We aren't the Browns.

I have seen a few places where Jamal Adams falls to #9 so I was thinking what could the Bengals do in this spot.

Bengals mock draft with Jamal Adams available
#9. Jamal Adams, SS, LSU
#41. Joe Mixon, RB, Oklahoma
Cin trades AJM to Hou for #57 and a 2019 conditional pick
(from Hou) #57 Tarell Basham, DE, Ohio
Cin trades Shawne Williams and pick 116 to Dal for pick #60
(from Dal)  #60  Raekwon McMillan, LB, Ohio State
#73 Dorian Johnson, G, Pitt
#138 Brandon Wilson, CB, Hou
#153 Josh Malone, WR, Tenn
#176 Zane Gonzalez, K, ASU
#193 Robert Davis, WR, GSU
#217 Chad Kelly, QB, Ole Miss
#227 David Jones, S, Richmond
#253 Ifeadi Odenigbo, DE, Northwestern

While i agree with your assessment about or LT spot, I really don't see where the Bengals would draft a tackle in the first round. They aren't ready to call it quits on Ced just yet.

I also can't see them drafting 16 players either.

I would love to see the Bengals move back a little in this draft. It just seems like there isn't a guy that fits what they are looking for at #9.

This is a rather lengthy post but if you are bored at work maybe it would entertain you.

I think the Bengals can make some moves in the draft if the draft falls their way. I know the Bengals are not traditionally a trade up and down team but this draft and the depth in the middle rounds could and should cause the Bengals to be more active especially with a wealth of picks.

My first situation is Jonathan Allen falls to the 9th pick.

Most importantly Washington has 10 picks in this draft and if they feel they are getting a top 5 talent in the 9 slot with the lack of difference making depth in this draft of interior linemen, I can see this being a viable trade.

Mock draft #1

(from Was) #17 Cin selects Taco Charlton, DE, Michigan

#41 Cin selects Joe Mixon, RB, Oklahoma

(from Was) #49 Cin selects Zay Jones, WR, ECU

#73 Cin selects Ethan Pocic, C/G, LSU or Dorian Johnson, G, Pitt

Mock draft #2

(from Was) #17 Cin selects Dalvin Cook, RB, FSU

#41 Cin selects Dion Dawkins, OG/OT, Temple

(from Was) #49 Cin selects Zay Jones, WR, ECU

#73 Cin selects Tarell Basham, DE, Ohio/DeMarcus Walker, DE FSU

Mock draft #3

(from Was) #17 Cin selects OT Ryan Ramczyk/Garrett Bolles

#41 Cin selects Joe Mixon, RB, Oklahoma

(from Was) #49 Cin selects Zay Jones, WR, ECU

#73 Cin selects Tarell Basham, DE, Ohio/DeMarcus Walker, DE FSU

Mock draft #4

(from Was) #17 Cin selects Corey Davis, WR, Western Michigan

#41 Cin selects Joe Mixon, RB, Oklahoma

(from Was) #49 Cin selects Jordan Willis, DE, KSU

#73 Cin selects Ethan Pocic, C/G, LSU or Dorian Johnson, G, Pitt

Second situation involves Titans trading back with Cleveland to 12 and then moving back up to #9 to take either Mike Williams, Hooker,  Lattimore or Adams if any of those are on the board.

Cin trades pick #9 to Ten for #12 and #83

Mock Draft #5
(from TEN) #12 Cin selects Corey Davis, WR, Western Michigan

#41 Cin selects Joe Mixon, RB, Oklahoma

#73 Cin selects Ethan Pocic, C/G, LSU or Dorian Johnson, G, Pitt

#83 Cin selects Daeshon Hall, DE, Texas A&M

Mock Draft #6
(from Was) #12 Cin selects Corey Davis, WR, Western Michigan

#41 Cin selects Joe Mixon, RB, Oklahoma

#73 Cin selects Tarell Basham, DE, Ohio/DeMarcus Walker, DE FSU

#83 Cin selects Isaac Asiata, G, Utah

Mock Draft #7
(from Was) #12 Cin selects Derek Barnett, DE, Tennessee

#41 Cin selects Joe Mixon, RB, Oklahoma

#73 Cin selects Ethan Pocic, C/G, LSU or Dorian Johnson, G, Pitt

#83 Cin selects Jourdan Lewis, CB, Michigan

In this scenario a WR like Malone in a later round would be switched.

#116 Cin selects Alex Anzalone, OLB, Florida

#138 Cin selects Jeremy Sprinkles, TE, Ark

#153 Cin selects Joe Williams, RB, Utah

#176 Cin selects Robert Davis, WR, Georgia State

#193 Cin selects Zane Gonzalez, K, Arizona St

#217 Cin selects Chad Kelly, QB, Ole Miss

#227 Cin selects David Jones, S, Richmond

251 Cin selects Ifeadi Odenigbo, DE, Northwestern

A man can dream mock draft

Bengals trade A.J. McCarron to Houston for pick #57 and a conditional 3rd to 5th round pick in the 2019 draft.

Houston misses out on Romo and decide that McCarron is their best option with 2 years left on his deal. It makes more sense to give up their second round pick than to trade up and mortgage their future for a suspect QB class.

Most importantly Washington has 10 picks in this draft and if they feel they are getting a top 5 talent in the 9 slot with the lack of difference making depth in this draft of interior linemen, I can see this being a viable trade.

(from Was) #17 Cin selects Ryan Ramczyk, OT, Wis
I do not love having to take an OT in this spot but here we are. The Bengals clearly should not just hand over the blind side to C.O. and hope for the best. Protecting Andy Dalton, the franchise QB, should be the highest of priority and with the attempt to re-sign Whitworth even after drafting his heir apparent that is a clear signal to me that they do not think Ogbuehi is ready to take on that role. Ramczyk is not the perfect prospect and the medicals would have to check out but at this point I think you take him.

#41 Cin selects Joe Mixon, RB, Oklahoma

Cincinnati has never been shy on giving second chances and with the addition of several picks they take a chance on a first round talent here. Mixon is a three down back with arguably the most upside at the position.

(from Was) #49 Cin selects Zay Jones, WR, ECU
I have seen this kid mocked all over the second round and even in the early third but since this is my dream mock, I am grabbing him here. Tough, high character, excellent route runner and he catches the football.

(from Hou) #57 Cin selects Raekwon McMillan, LB, OSU

The Bengals add some youth in the LB area and get a solid LB that can play all 3 downs.

#73 Cin selects Cin selects Tarell Basham, DE, Ohio
Powerful DE that can set an edge and rush the passer. Needs to work on diversifying his moves but a high motor, hard working player that has a nasty streak.

Cin trades #116, #138, and #193 to NE for #96

(from NE) #96 Cin selects Sidney Jones, CB, Was
Bengals trade back into the third round with the Patriots to secure what many felt was the best CB going into this draft before the achilles injury.

#153 Cin selects Howard Wilson, CB, Houston
Developmental CB with ball skills and a lot of upside.

#176 Cin selects Zane Gonzalez, K, Arizona St
Consensus top K in the draft and Groza winner.

#217 Cin selects Chad Kelly, QB, Ole Miss
Developmental QB that is coming off of injury that can be stashed on IR without affecting numbers.

#227 Cin selects David Jones, S, Richmond
6'1'' 205 4.43 at pro day. Had 9 interceptions in 2015 and was injured (forearm) last season.

#251 Cin selects Ifeadi Odenigbo, DE, Northwestern
Pass rushing specialist for NW that could be a good developmental player/ practice squad
