Trump election lawyer pleads guilty to attempting to overthrow our democracy
#1
Another big domino fell this morning when one of Trump's main election attorneys, Sydney Powell, accepted a plea deal to avoid trial and felony RICO convictions. Powell pleads GUILTY to six conspiracy counts to commit election fraud and admits it was all a lie that was ultimately orchestrated by Benedict Donald the Traitor Trump.

Sydney Powell will receive 6 years of probation, a fine, pay restitution, plus the agreement to testify for the state of Georgia against the other 17 co-conspirators. Powell must also write a letter of apology to the citizens of Georgia for pushing Traitor Trump's BIG LIE. Now Ms. Powell must face the bar association which will permanently revoke her license to practice law. Ms. Powell will also go down in history as a traitor to our Constitution. She still awaits formal sentencing.

Counterpoint - no one being above the law is a hallmark of a democratic society and the fact that people are being held accountable for their actions in this manner points to a separation from societies that you are attempting to equate us to.

Boy am I glad that post is immortalized in your reply because that has to be an all-time bad take on this board. Yikes.

Walls are closing in, finally. They were certainly strained over four years, but our strong institutions survived Trump despite his best efforts.

Nah, she isn't flipping on Putin or the Clintons. Someone will just try to buy her off using campaign funds resulting in more crimes.

I'm more interested in watching Trump tell his fanbase "I've never even heard of Sidney Powell" and then watching them run to tell their family members who cut them off years ago that "Trump doesn't even know Sidney Powell, purple monkey dishwasher."

Reportedly, there's a taped deposition to which Powell testified about Trump's knowledge and intent. Trump's knowledge that he lost the election and his intent to overturn the results in any way.   Pushing her and other attornies to delay the certification so that they in some way could throw out the votes of millions of citizens and push it to the state legislators.

So even if she does "accidentally fall out a window," Georgia's DA, Fanni Wills,  still has a sworn taped deposition of Powell,  with her lawyer,  testifying Trump lost and that he knew it, but chose to attack the most sacred laws of our Constitution in an effort to overthrow the government of the United States. (aka A Coup d'etat)

Isn't it interesting how what used to be the party of law and order only cares about democracy and the laws of the US Constitution when they win?  I guess we all could rob a bank and then say we're running for the GOP presidential nomination and all would be forgiven.   Sarcasm

She won't be the last one to plead guilty or change her plea.

The rats have officially started jumping the sinking ship.

The really interesting thing is that is that Smith can and will use everything she says in Georgia for his federal trial. She's already his star witness.

And Trump's polling won't drop a single point.

Not among his base of mouth breathers, but the establishment GOP and independent voters won’t support him, as evidenced by their refusal to support Trump’s lap dog Jimmy “GYM” Jordan. The GOP needs to drop him like the hot Trump turd he is and move on to Ron DeSants to have any prayer in 2024.

I can't see DeSantis having a shot in 2024 unless Trump drops out of the race and endorses him.  Trump has the nomination locked up, and if for some reason DeSantis wins it legit Trump would declare it rigged and threaten to run 3rd party or something.  Trump has to run for president, and as long as he's saying he's running he's going to get enough votes to screw the chances of anyone else who isn't a democrat.

And…. That’s exactly why the GOP will get trounced in the battleground states. Trump’s base of radicalized MAGAs is an albatross around the neck of true conservatives, but they’ve created this monster and now they’ll have to sleep in the bed they’ve made. I’m hearing McConnell is advising them to start concentrating on the 2024 senate races and 2028 White House.

DeSantis may be even less popular among Democrats and Independents than Trump is. Their only shot is Haley but I don’t think she can pull in enough Republicans to the polls

Won't matter when he's in Federal prison, which is where he's headed.

I agree with all of this except DeSantis.  He is far too right, and has zero Charisma and really doesn't seem all that smart.  The repubs can do better.

He can still run for president and a lot of people are going to vote for him so he can pardon himself because he's innocent and even if he's guilty they'd rather have him in office than Biden.

I mean I'm right there with both of you - I'm simply pointing out that dude wasn't lying when he said he could kill someone in Times Square and people would still love him (or whatever it was - I'm dead tired and can't think straight right now).

It'd be fascinating if it wasn't getting people to act in their worst impulses.
