Trump the GOP's man
#1
Just saw the word that Cruz is ending his campaign. Hasn't been announced officially, but the AP has it from a senior advisor.
#2
Officially announced, campaign suspended.

Points for knowing when to throw in the towel. Old Bernie still fighting the good fight, I see.

Well, maybe there is a chance he will win the GOP nomination.

He's got it. The delegate math will give him the amount needed, especially with Cruz out of the way, now.

The only way he doesn't take it is for the GOP to unbind the delegates in the first round of voting. If they do that, it disenfranchises the voters and would cause an implosion for the party.

Yeah, I was kind of poking fun of those that kept saying he would lose as soon as folks started falling out. This is the day I officially became a Trump supporter. Not sure how stoked I am about that.

I'm shocked !
Shocked

As far as being the nominee, there was banter about "changing the rules" of the convention when they meet in July.

I agree though, people will go ape, if they monkey around with the system.
Eh, Fredino ?
(see how I worked that.....eh ? eh?)

I will admit, I was among those. He was winning, but not with a majority. That made me think that there would be someone the GOP would rally around as the field narrowed. I think the problem with that is, from what I have heard, Cruz is almost as detestable as Trump to a lot of them.

I still don't think this will work out well in the general. Unless Trump does a 180 in his actions and starts working on unifying right away, this could split the GOP.

I called this months ago. I'll restate my other point that Trump would beat Sanders and could absolutely beat Clinton. Should continue to be an interesting election year.

Absolutely !
Trump has FAR too much ammo to hammer Hilldog with.
We all know that it doesn't matter if it's true, or not.
Trump will spin and win.

There's a couple of reasons for this.  Hillary has almost as negative a public image as Trump.  Polls about hypothetical match ups are essentially useless.  I think Trump plays well in many swing states.  It's going to be a fascinating presidential election.

Yes, it will be.
I question whether Trump could defeat Sanders.
Sanders is pretty mud free.
If you add in the hate for Trump and the people with their hands out, it's going to be tough.

Good points, but I still think socialism is such a four letter word in this country that Trump would beat him.  I actually think he has a better chance against Bernie than Clinton.  Plus Hillary has had a lot of mud thrown at her, while some of it stuck Sanders has been essentially unscathed.  Who knows what will get thrown at him in the general election.

Do you think Trump would go all "McCarthy" ?

Who knows what Trump would do?  He might not even know.  I don't think you'd need to go that far to do some damage, Sanders is to the left of European socialism in a lot of ways.  I don't think socialism would play well in many swing states, especially in the so called rust belt.

This general election is going to be one of the dirtiest crapfests ever seen if not the dirtiest.

Both candidates are bad for this country and there isn't a damn thing we can do about it. People are going to vote "D" or "R" and who cares what happens.

It never ceases to amaze me that there is a 3rd party that tells people they can have all the guns and weed they want and people are still lining up to vote for two candidates they outwardly hate.  I tells ya, a lot of effort goes into this sort of mass delusion and it's damn impressive.

Outside your living room and Trump headquarters I do not think there has ever been a poll showing Trump beating Sanders or Clinton. Every poll I have seen of Trump vs Sanders has Sanders winning (often by) by double digits and every poll I have seen shows Clinton winning but by a much more narrow margin.

As to your statement polls are useless, yeah I guess all those polls before every election that Trump has won so far were useless, however they were also right. Same with the ones that predicted Hillary or Bernie from state to state. Technically useless, but highly predictive of the outcomes so far in this "interesting" year. One person's interesting is another person's tragic...
JOHN ROBERTS: From time to time in the years to come, I hope you will be treated unfairly so that you will come to know the value of justice... I wish you bad luck, again, from time to time so that you will be conscious of the role of chance in life and understand that your success is not completely deserved and that the failure of others is not completely deserved either.

While most polls show Clinton winning, there have been a few that show Trump winning within the margin of error. A few.

As SSF said, though, those polls are pointless at this stage. A lot can change in 6 months.

Is there anyway the Republican Party comes back from this? Populism fueled by xenophobia has now been shown to absolutely shatter conservatism within this party in a head to head match up. How do you brand this party?
