What should happen to Mika
#1

Quote:MSNBC's Mika Brzezinski is facing growing backlash - including criticism from President Donald Trump - after calling Secretary of State Mike Pompeo a "wannabe dictator's butt boy" Wednesday during a segment of "Morning Joe."

Would it matter if she worked for FOX?

She should be condemned, suspended, whatever they think is correct. No excuse for that.
#3
She should be getting backlash from the public but not get fired or suspended or any kind of action taken against her. Let the market take care of itself. If ratings drop to a certain level, can her for not being able to keep ratings up.

Honestly, I think the thought of homosexuals never crossed her mind when she said "butt buddy". But in today's society you're going to get roasted for saying such a thing. My question was do folks think the public backlash would be the same if someone such as Carlson Tucker said it?

Should be fired. If this is the first instance of something along this line, then maybe just a suspension, depending on company policy

As to the question, if she worked at Fox she'd get promoted. But only if she inferred something against a Democrat.

Much less what she'd imply.

Are we suggesting someone should be fired for hurling public insults?

If s/he doesn't work for Fox, then yes.

I think Fred is the only one who has gone to that level.

Might that have been a risky experiment to see how viewers respond?  Could higher ratings balance the negative response?

Anger and insult don't seem to work well for the more liberal commentators.  But Mika is generally so flat, passive or monotonic; maybe she was trying to break out a bit?

Ratings shouldn't really dictate the news. ideally, reporters tell people what they need to know, not what they want to know. Ideally.

Shouldn't. But surely do.

Morning Joe isn't just a tell people what they need to know show. They present themselves, and their guests, as contexualizing news events. A little reporting and a lot of commentary, analysis, opinionating.  Good guests sometimes, but a long ways from Chris Hayes and Rachel or Chris Matthews, in terms of insightful background, legal analysis and the like.  That's why I was wondering if Mika were maybe seeking a little more thunder. How often has anyone talked about what Mika said in the forum? Now we are doing it.

What if the ratings go up. That is the disturbing possibility in today's media sphere.

Jeez... that isn't acceptable. If she should be fired is probably up to MSNBC, they need to know what they want to be.

As for the question, I think some things said on FOX are on par with that for me. Lou Dobbs called Rachel Maddow tea-bagging queen, mueller a SOB, Soros an evil SOB and told a judge to go to hell. Pirro calles democrats "demon rats". And so on. This is no defense for Mika though.

Edit, she did apologize though. That goes a long way for me.

Ratings will go up but only for a little bit. People will tune in just to see if she says something crazy and then will get bored with her quickly and stop watching. After a while, the ratings for her show will drop drastically and she will be fired. If her rating go up and stay up, then she's making money for the network and will be nothing more than a "Shock Jock" or in other words she will be irrelevant like Hannity who is a shill.

She should run for office as a Republican. With that kind of "homophobic" talk she'd be elected in a blowout.

Once again Trump can dish it and can't take it. Just like a lame bully.

Only difference is she doesn't work for Fox so she'll likely be held accountable while if she worked for Fox, she'd be promoted and set for a position in the WH.

I think Hannity is actually a political force, not irrelevant at all to millions of Trump supporters.

Mika's audience is different though, and likely won't like the change in tone. MSNBC won't have a Hannity.  Mika will clean up her act. They are not going to fire Joe's wife.

She should apologize and then any punishment will come from her bosses and there will be blowback from the viewers I assume.

btw, would what matter?
