Will Smith Chris Rock
#41
And the Oscar for Best Actor in a staged skit goes to......
This crap was staged and it is obvious. First, Will is laughing at the joke, which was pre-approved by the producers. Second, when he goes up there Rock is in a Parade Rest stance with his hands behind him and leaning forward with his face to accept the slap. Thirdly, Smith is trying to contain a grin walking back to his seat. But most tellingly, this broadcast was on a 15 second delay. If it was not supposed to happen, no one outside the hall would have seen it as they would have cut to commercial. And then you have a person going onto the Oscars stage and assaulting the host, and he is not removed from the premises??? This was nothing more than a pitiful Hollyweird attempt at driving ratings for their award shows, which are at an all time low. Notice how there are no charges for an "assault" that supposedly occurred in front of millions? Notice how all the people in the room who profess themselves to be anti-violence (except for the movies they make) gave him a standing ovation? And now the Academy threatens to strip his award, but doesn't. Staged production, these are actors after all.

It wasn’t staged. Anyone watching the uncensored version (outside of the US) could see that clear as day. Smith cussing Rock out from his seat was awkward AF. And there are videos taken during the commercial break of several people (Denzel Washington, Tyler Perry, etc) all going up to Will Smith and Jada.

Anyone doubting this is just conspiracy theory bs at its finest.

You don’t tarnish the image of one of Americans favorite A-List actors for a mere ratings bump on an Awards ceremony. That’s ludicrous.

The only reason I can think it was staged is the fact that Smith wasn't immediately taken into custody. If it weren't staged then the security/ law enforcement working the event should never work again.

He wasn't even escorted out of the ceremony....

It’s Will Smith though. I assure you, if it was some C-lister who wasn’t up for best actor it would have unfolded very differently.

This is hardly the first (and unfortunately won’t be the last) time that someone’s status/fame/wealth, etc has afforded him special treatment.

It's simple law enforcement though. Now his status may have gotten him released once removed from the premises, but to not remove the threat is absurd.

The first person to approach Will Smith after the assault was Denzel Washington? GTFO

As I said: If it weren't scripted the security that was responsible for the event will/should never work another day in their lives in the security field. This is not a movie....unless it was

I don’t disagree. It just doesn’t surprise me in the least. Again, the Hollywood elite are treated differently. Harvey Weinstein won like 80 something Oscars, and got away with much worse for years.

You see the way Chris Rock started to say something after Will left the stage but then was like "nah, forget it, your marriage is a joke......"

That's why I don't think it was staged.

Another reason why you can know that it wasn't staged because, if it was, Will wouldn't have been laughing when Chris told the joke.

That would have been the worst acting performance of Will's career if he was supposed to look mad.

He went back and sat down.

The "victim" laughed it off and was not scared.

There was no continuing "threat".

Chris Rock could've absolutely annihilated Will Smith. That material was just begging to be written.

He was seated before he assaulted Rock the first time; so I don't see how him going back and sitting down removes any threat.

You have 0 idea how Rock felt.

Tickets for Chris Rock's shows went from $50.00 each prior to this, to $350.00 each now. (according to what I heard on the radio yesterday) Kaufman/Lawler 2.0

Imagine Will and Chris having an after dinner conversation, perhaps while enjoying some delicious beverages or indulging in some altering substances.  Will asks, "How's things going in controversial comedy these days?"  Rock says "Get real, ticket prices are falling and the audiences are getting smaller".  Will, "Yeah, the Ho sympathizer business is moving pretty slow these days, too."  Rock, "Hey, I got an idea...
