It's OBVIOUS that there was a plan going into this draft. There are things that Lou wants to do on defense and he needed certain players in order to do this. Athletic DBs and speed on defense - plain and simple. I am beyond excited to see what this guy can scheme up with the amount of athleticism that he now has in that room. Remember what we did against KC to basically neutralize their entire offense?

Lou is the Andy Reid of defense at the moment. I can't wait to see what he can cook up and scheme with the amount of speed he has in the locker room now. It's going to be awesome.

You people need to stop saying "you people".   Hilarious

Lou has absolutely earned the benefit of the doubt and more.  I think the Bengals are so ahead of the curve right now, it is simply astonishing.

The were out in front of "you need three elite WRs".  They were out in front on using a draft pick for a specialist (McPherson).  They are now out in front of building a FAST, versatile, and deep...I will just call it secondary....secondary room.

The team has been built for success and the players have bought in to the scheme.  Dunlap looks like a bigger idiot than ever eating his chips on a zoom meeting.  Good riddance.  Guys that are all about the team and doing their job.  The results speak for themselves.

Nvm, I forgot about him because he's not on the team.
He's still a FA.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins

The best thing about Lou is he is not one of these DC's who is locked in on a certain style or scheme and adjusts how he sets the defense based on which team he is playing.

I don't understand why he is listed as a current active contract at Spotrac.

I'm pretty sure Daniels was here last year on a 1 year deal.

He's not listed as one of the guys on their active cap - https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/cincinnati-bengals/cap/
However, when clicking the active contracts, I do see him listed there but no year listed for when contract would be up.

LOL.

He has been  a DC for 4 seasons (1 interim DC). And his teams have finished:

25th/32 in the NFL 2015 (total yards)

29/32 in 2019

26/32 in 2020

17/32 in 2021

I cannot figure why anyone would be down on Lou. I love his philosophy for defense. I remember he was asked if they were a 3-4 or 4-3 base and he basically said yes. He then went on to say that they were whatever they needed to be to beat the team they were playing that week. He is committed to being able to run multiple looks on the defense and to do it with the same personnel groups which keeps the offense a bit more honest.

He makes great adjustments and find niche uses for player such as using Flowers as the TE specialist. The versatility he added in the draft is only going to add to the multiple looks that the Bengals will be able to run.

Notice the jump from '20 to '21 by being able to put his pieces on the field? That is the name of the game.

So he’s the ‘Andy Reid of defense’ because after 4 years of being a DC, he finally had a slightly below average defense.

Got it

I did not say he was anything at all. You must have me confused with the OP. What I stated was to look at the significant single year jump when he was able to assemble a defense with most of the pieces that he wanted. Got it?

I replied to the OP, with his quote about Andy Reid. And showed how bad/mediocre Lou has been as a DC.

Got it? That OSU brain is struggling today, hu?

So last year he was a below avg, but not outright awful, DC. I can see you’re thrilled

What about scoring defense?

25/32 2019
21/32 2020
13/32 2021

Looks like some improvement, then big jump again..

I'm excited to see how more improvement he can do this year.

I never said they didn’t improve. I’m glad to see the trend

I took issue with the op saying Lou was the Andy Reid of defensive coordinators.

What an absolute clown assertion.

He has never had a Defense finish a season in the top half of yards allowed as DC.
