MJ either threw his man or his man fell onto Burrow's knee; he didn't, "get beaten," and have his guy just crush Burrow, he fell on him, torso-first.

I mean, cirticise the guy for his issues (rightfully so), but don't fabricate things.

You only need to watch the first 5 seconds.

Jordan was immediately driven backwards, wrapped his arms around the defender in a bear hug, and tackled him into Burrow. That's pretty much the definition of getting beaten if you get driven straight back and are forced to hold a guy and can only throw him at your QB. If Burrow was a foot to the right, and thus not on the ground writhing in agony, it would have been the easiest flag for holding ever thrown.

When I said, "get beaten," I meant that he didn't get pushed out of the play or had his guy get by him, ala a DE around an OT.

He was bullrushed, sure, but he still had the presence of mind to grab his guy and throw him down; if he was, "beaten," he wouldn't have been able to even touch him or do anything (hence Bobby Hart).

I'm not saying MJ's not at fault, but the result of it was a freak play, nothing more.

Reiff is a MAJOR upgrade at RT and on defense we did the important job of improving the quality across the board in the secondary and adding two starters on the DL who both will generate pass rush (and pass rush from the inside no less which lately has been lacking).

At this point we should resign Spain and maybe another outside vet Guard like a Turner, then go into the draft planning on double dipping on OL.

I just don't agree with this. The guys that we signed are replacement guys that aren't as good as the guys we lost.

Reiff was a good signing but the offensive line still has 2 large holes in it. Plus Hopkins...is this guy even going to be ready by the start of the season? Is Billy Price going to start at center? Are we comfy with that?

It at best has been a net -0- gain as far as needs. We did nothing to get over the hump, or fill needs we had going in. And still need way more picks then we have to fill those holes left outstanding.

One day we'll have a proactive free agency, and not a reactive one (just to replacing players)

I think trading a superb, but often hurt, DE for a reliable All Pro DE is a gain.
I think Hilton and Awuzie over Alexander and Dennard is a gain.
The DT we got from Cleveland (I haven't learned to spell his name yet) is better than a hurt Geno (and hopefully we get a healthy Geno back for less) - Gain.
Reiff over Hart- are you kidding.... huge gain.

Hilton not only can catch interceptions, he adds to the pass rush immensely

We gotta get to the hump before we even attempt to get over it.

I agree with you for the most part. Some lateral moves that saved money. I want to see us spend that money. If all this team plans for the rest of this offseason is to have a good draft, then I think we missed the mark.

I do think Hendrickson could end up having a better career than Lawson, but the realist in me says he was a one year wonder. This FA for me hinges on if that guy becomes “the guy” on this defense.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him come back at a lower contract if he didn't.

Hart is human garbage as a player and a person.  If they re-sign him I will probably switch allegiance since it will show they are all liars about quality players that are leaders.

And people seem to forget we still have a draft coming up that could easily yield a couple Oline starters. I'm still in a wait and see approach. Players still available.

I'm curious to know what Hart has ever done to be classified human garbage as a person?

banking on rookies to be instant starters is almost always a bad plan especially if its the only one

It makes the need to draft OT, OG, OG, OC the first 4 rounds, but this is where this FA has left us. Finding a 2WR, TE, LB, DE, DT will have to wait until next year unless folks are banking on 4th-7th round picks. But that isn't fair to them to have to step in and quickly start.

I wouldn't say he's human garbage, just that his beliefs and thought are bigoted, racist, etc. He's never acted upon his PsOV, so he could just be a major wuss.

Bobby Hart explains his controversial social media posts - Cincy Jungle

Quote:“I don’t mean to offend nobody,” said Hart. “I don’t discriminate against nobody. I know that everyone thinks differently and I know that I have a platform that sometimes people can see things and take it a certain way and I’m definitely aware of that. As you mature and grow I talked to the players, coaches, and things like that.

“I don’t discriminate or feel no type of way about nobody. I treat everybody the same. Just because you have different thoughts and different beliefs, that don’t mean anything. I feel like that’s one the most beautiful things about his world, about this team, about places. People come from different backgrounds and have different beliefs can come together and come to common goals and achievements.”

How dare he have different thoughts.......
At this point in free agency there is no need to rush and grab just because they need a position. If they bring in Nick Easton that's fine but anyone they sign at the moment isn't a solution.

The draft will be important and no they dont have to go OL in the first few rounds but at least 2 the first 5 would be prudent. The closer we get to June 1st we will see more cuts and because of the deep OL class expect to see those mid level aging starters cut for less expensive rookies with potential.

Right now the Bengals have filled holes that needed to be filled and fixed a major issue at RT for 2021. Now it's time for the draft and see how the rest of the offseason shakes out.

Cesar Ruiz was last season's top IOL prospect and drafted in round 1 by the Saints. He was guard #64 last season according to pff and graded out worse than Michael Jordan. Jonah Jackson was the next pure guard taken in the 3rd round and he was guard #55. I am not saying that either player won't eventually develop into a solid player but it takes time. Plug and play IOL is just tough. The game is much faster than college and will seem even faster if the player opted out last season. Defensive schemes run games up front particularly on passing downs. Defenses have inside rushers dedicated to just getting after the qb. Assuming some 21 year old rookie is going to be a plug and play without a bunch of bad reps against experienced, athletic players is fools gold. Complicate that with adding 2 new rookie starters and potentially Price and/or Burrow (both really inexperienced) having to call the protections on every play. The guard position should have been dealt with in free agency and it wasn't. Dumpster diving at this point is not going to be productive either. I am not sure what the answer is at this point but I do not see a clear path to protecting Burrow at this point.

I just don't understand you sometimes.

Who is the DT on our team that was as good as Ogunjobi?  You have to assume that Geno was going to be 100% healthy to say we did not have a hole at DT.

I also see Reif as  big upgrade over Hart.

Even if you think Lawson was as good as Hendrickson that was a big upgrade because of Lawsons injury history.

You are just upset that so many of your claims were proven to be false.

Why in the world are you considering Awuzie a Dennard replacement (he wasn’t even on the team last season)? He is WJ3’s replacement on the outside. And is pretty clearly a downgrade.

Trae Waynes will likely replace WJ3 at LCB and Chidobe Awuzie will step in at RCB. And yes it does matter.

But trae was already brought in last season. as a kirkpatrick replacement...  Can he replace both?
