Coronavirus

Their wasn't a panic in 2009-2010 with the swine flu for some reason
There was available testing, a quickly available updated vaccine (they didn't have to start from ground zero).  Influenza has a much shorter incubation period, doesn't live for days on surfaces, and even in the case of the 2009 pandemic.... a much lower death rate.  People think they understand the flu, even if it is a more deadly strain.  This is new and different which can be frightening. The economy at that time was already at the bottom due to the 2008 crash.  But most importantly, there was competent leadership running the response.

Ole Wes would be coming to your house for some TP once he got tired of using branches... Ninja

Damn virus. UD may not get their national championship and I simply can't wait any longer for football to start.

Well for the TP crisis you can also buy fairly cheap and easily install a bidet that attaches under the toilet seat.  It doesn't take electricity and works off the water pressure to your toilet via a T-Valve.  Talk about feeling clean and it is rather refreshing, that's it. Just make sure the water pressure isn't too high.   Big Grin

Ohio public schools closing for 3 weeks really hurts working class who now have to pay for childcare or take off work.

Yeah and where in the hell are they going to find openings in child care even if all the childcare places stay open.  The world has lost its damn mind.

Necrotising Fasciitis is flesh-eating bacteria (when your skin necrotizes, it dies and turns black).

Gangrene is basically the same thing, from what a layman like myself gathers, but FEB spreads significantly quicker.

Perhaps OMUTJB can clarify if I've got anything wrong.

Where the hell did I say that?

Still, when 60 million Americans were infected by the swine flu it wasn't a big deal, this isn't even close to that.

I was looking for some sort of sports to watch on ESPN when a pandemic specialist came on (and a hottie at that) who stressed that this is NOT a coronavirus we have seen before or that ANYONE has any resistance to. She said the mortality rate would be 5-10 times higher than the flu. This is real folks, and while sports are important (especially at the beginning of March Madness) we just as well resign ourselves to the hard reality it's not gonna happen, and I'm talking about pretty much ALL sports. I was listening to Bernie Sanders while typing this, and he said the mortality rate will be higher than the death toll from WWII. While of course this is (hopefully) sensationalizing the problem, it may well not be. At any rate, I'm in one of the worst categories as both over 60 and a cancer patient, and I take it seriously. I think you should too until it's proven to not be the threat many now fear it is.

You seem to be indicating that people are overreacting because of who is president.  Seeing professional sporting leagues go on hiatus and lose money makes me think there is more to this than just being scared by the media.

Bidets are amateur, European things that are useless-ish.

Now Japanese toilets, that's just brilliant.

I want to import one.

Just like you can keep getting the flu and the cold; they are coronaviruses too and they all work the same (what I've been trying to say constantly).

This one is just stronger and requires people to be more-vigilant, if they have symptoms.

That's what these people did, imported the Toto's from Japan.

5 grand man, I put 5 of them in their house. 25 thousand bucks just for the toilets let alone the work putting them in...

The lids automatically lift when you enter the room, crazy stuff.

Just to clarify, when I said yank down a branch I meant to use the leaves from said branch. I'm not wiping with just a stick.

I just think the people filling up entire carts of TP is equal parts comical and terrifying.

Like, hey lady if you're about needing TP for the next 8 months, you may want to think about throwing some Campbells Chunky and Ramen Noodkes in there to balance out your hysteria.

And the hand sanitizer? Are they bathing in it? Drinking it?

For christ sake, maybe buy an extra one, throw in an extra hand soap, a big bottle of rubbing alcohol and you're all set for months. Who the hells needs 500oz of hand sanitizer?

Suggesting this is a media vs president thing fits current politics to a T, or is it tee?
