Coronavirus
(03-12-2020, 05:45 PM)Takedown Wrote:  Getting infected is also slim, unless you're just now learning proper hygiene.

So the only people who catch the virus have poor personal hygiene.

All you have to do is wash your hands every time you touch a door to enter abuilding, or exchange money, or touch a gas pump, or an ATM, or a seat in public transportation, or in a theatre, or in a restaurant, or in any office.

All the clean people who wash their hands every time they do anything like this will be just fine.

However, I do understand unreasonable fear. Heck, as is we have millions of gun owners acting like their suburban homes are armed fortresses ready to kill just your average, every day run of the mill burglar/prowler trying to swipe your yard gnomes.. Is it any surprise we have millions overreacting to a deadly virus that can kill potentially kill millions? That doesn't surprise me in the least. Years ago when I was hitch hiking coast to coast I would see people driving 70 MPH reach across to lock their car doors as they passed me AS IF I was going to stop a 3000 pound Cadillac going 70 MPH with my bare hands.. Hint: I never did..
For years Hollywood has been scaring us with movies of viruses, nuclear annihilation and all manner of nasty potential events that ran the gamut from nuclear wars to viruses, muggers, and even brown people moving next door. We probably all know people who are afraid of their own shadows at night time under the covers in bed. (By the way, the boogie man is real..He lives under my bed in a 20 bedroom estate.)
This one is really bringing out the fear in a LOT of people including those not normally associated with panicky behavior.
My father just passed away at 91 and he was constantly checking his temperature even though he rarely left the house to get exposed to much of anything. I really don't know if he was exposed at the doctors office and will never know considering he's due for cremation tomorrow. His death was not unexpected though.
I guess it's better to be safe than sorry. If you do get the virus and survive it it'll be no consolation if everyone else in your household doesn't.
Sorry about the loss of your father grampahol.

And the great depression wouldn't have happened if everyone could have just agreed to not panic and take all their money out of the banks at once.

No.  You can't just sue for any reason if you have no chance of winning.

My retirement plan involves a serious of frivolous lawsuits, so I hope you're wrong. Side note, my favorite is one of the guys caught on the To Catch a Predator show by Chris Hansen attempted to sue them for $80 million.

Isn't that what we're doing right now? Everything is being canceled or at least postponed.. The media is always trying to twist something to spike their ratings. And of course election time rolls around at the end of the year. "Trump isn't doing enough to stop coronavirus". Yes, let's blame the spread of a mild virus on the POTUS. If I'm in poor health, I'm more worried about the flu. Sorry.

The flu, tuberculosis, pneumonia, etc. can be airborne too. People hear the word "airborne" and freak the hell out when talking about covid-19. Too many movies probably, idk. I just recommend to people who are scared to avoid big events that are completely unnecessary. I don't think anyone here is trying to say you can't die from covid-19, but there are so many things that people die from everyday in America alone and no one panics. It's not good news/it's boring.

You have companies right now posing as the CDC in social media causing panic to buy their damn product to stay prepared. If this virus kills a lot more people, I'm blaming the last minute hoarders. Some people can't leave work to go stand outside of a Costco or Sam's Club to prep. Cleaning supplies/Disinfectants should be properly distributed to keep people sanitized. This is all overblown and ridiculous.

You can't catch homelessness from contact with homeless people.

These comparisons are completely illogical.

Quote:COVID-19, the illness caused by coronavirus, proves deadly in around 3.5 percent of confirmed cases.

While this is not the same as its mortality rate, given many people may be infected but not realise it, it is significantly higher than seasonal flu, which typically kills 0.1 percent of patients.

"There is still considerable uncertainty around the fatality rates of COVID-19 and it likely varies depending on the quality of local healthcare," said Francois Balloux, Professor of Computational Systems Biology at University College London.

"That said, it is around two percent on average, which is about 20 times higher than for the seasonal flu lineages currently in circulation."

Quote:Contagiousness

Disease experts estimate that each COVID-19 sufferer infects between two to 3 others. That's a reproduction rate up to twice as high as seasonal flu, which typically infects 1.3 new people for each patient.

He publicly stated that we only had 15 cases in the United States and it would drop off to zero very quickly.  The media did not force him to lie so that people would not worry about catching the virus.

You know that the jury is affected by media correct?  That is why they are sequestered.

I'd wager if you have a strong stance for or against this corona virus' seriousness you got it from the media.  Unless more people than I expect are currently posting on this board whilst wearing lab coats.  There is a "media" to feed every side's insanity. The very idea that the media can't be trusted comes from the media.

We need to test more so we can save more people and make sure our healthcare infrastructure doesn't go over capacity.

Sports are not losing money though because of the TV contracts they signed and they don't get much from the ticket gate. Same as Disney there losing money right now is overstated because they closed a theme park.

So yes I do think in an election year that these big companies would do anything to get rid of Trump. More so to the relationship with China( and them not liking Trump) then the companies themselve hating Trump.

Jessie Bates left the Bengals and that makes me sad!
Okay, I'm out of this thread. It is going off the rails. I'll leave with this:

Just be mindful of the situation but don't panic. Take measures to protect yourself and those near you as best as possible. Wash your hands often, clean areas of contact like the handles on your sinks regularly. If you want to be more safe limit how much time you spend in crowded spaces if possible. If you feel sick, fever, etc. stay home if you can. Don't shake hands with people and try not to touch your face, nose, ears.

My hope is less than a month from now we will all be back talking about what a great year the Bengals might have. Good luck and may the odds be ever in your favor. :)

Hmm
I had to think about this one...

But I do believe each side of the media spectrum benefits from sensationalism.

People tend to want to hear and read things that support their viewpoint and there is good money in supplying that information to people.  I'm all for capitalism, but it can be said that it has really mucked things up in this regard.
