RE: Thank you - michaelsean - 11-05-2018 And I’m going to stop with that particular discussion as Dino made a nice thread and I don’t want to mess it up. RE: Thank you - Beaker - 11-05-2018 Remember the expression "eff 'em if they can't take a joke"? I say eff 'em a lot nowadays since nobody can take a joke anymore. Somebody is always offended. Guess what....you don't have the right to not be offended. PC has made comedy an endangered species. Thank you! RE: Thank you - HarleyDog - 11-05-2018 This is the part of the thread when a keg is tapped and we all enjoy beers together and sing Viking songs. Ok i drauminom ek leit sem gegnom ein groman glugg þá helo feigo mennsko sveit, hver sjon ol sin eiginn ugg. Ek fekk sofa lika vel, ek truða þat væri best — at hvila mik á goðu þel´ ok gløyma svá folki flest´. And in the dream I saw as though through a dirty window the whole ill-fated human race, a different fear upon each face. The number of their worries grow and with them the number of their solutions — but the answer is often a heavier burden, even when the question hurts to bear. As I was able to sleep just as well, I thought that would be best — to rest myself here on fine fur, and forget everyone else. Peace, if it is to be found, is where one is furthest from the human noise — and walling oneself around, can have a dream of silk and fine furs. However, I thought there might just be 1 person, so I did a good deed so I could sleep really well on my bed of silk & fine furs. Good song though, though the translation could be better. e.g. "noble" for "aerlg." maybe "genuine." Actually correcting the translation of old Norse or whatever that is seems like something Dill might do. Don't really know Old Norse or Old Danish. Do know Old English though (or did 30 years ago), which is startlingly similar, including the orthography. I enjoy philology--though it's been a dead science for over a century now. |
