RE: 2020 Election - Big Boss - 10-07-2020

Meanwhile, we've gone from him "absolutely" releasing his tax returns "after audit" in 2016 to him escalating a New York State subpoena for said tax returns all the way up to the Supreme Court four years later.

For a man with nothing to hide, he sure is petrified of these returns getting out. But I suppose it's totally normal for people to fight cases at the Supreme Court level for the sake of principle. Definitely nothing odd about it whatsoever.

And yet it is argued that your own unreasonable bias and/or the unfair media is what convinced you to be mad about that fact.

I've yet to hear a compelling argument for why he shouldn't release them or why it's totally normal for him to fight this in the Supreme Court. They're tax returns.  If there's nothing to hide, then release them.  Easy peasy. If nothing else, you're taking one of the Democrats' main talking points away from them.

Going to these lengths to prevent them from being released suggests that there is something to hide.  Deductive reasoning.

Those with a higher standard:

Quote:Peter Gonzalez and Ismael Llano asked Biden questions at the Miami town hall Monday, which was hosted by Lester Holt, as part of an “audience of undecided Florida voters.”

But the two men were previously featured in an MSNBC segment in August, in which they both expressed their support for the former vice president, which was first reported by the Washington Free Beacon on Tuesday.

RE: 2020 Election - BmorePat87 - 10-07-2020

It's pretty tough defending the administration's record on Covid, especially as Trump is currently infected, but he is not doing himself any favors by dismissing 211k deaths or attempting to defend the rose garden event that infected a dozen people.

Might be true, might not be.

But not sure the Washington Free Beacon is a "higher standard" source to use.

The Washington Free Beacon is an American far-right political journalism website launched in 2012. The outlet states it is "dedicated to uncovering the stories that the powers that be hope will never see the light of day" and aims to produce "in-depth investigative reporting on a wide range of issues, including public policy, government affairs, international security, and media."[1]
The website is financially backed by Paul Singer, an American billionaire hedge fund manager and conservative activist.[2]
Contents

History[edit]

The Free Beacon was founded by Michael Goldfarb, Aaron Harrison, and Matthew Continetti. It launched on February 7, 2012, as a project of the 501©4 organization Center for American Freedom.[3] In August 2014, it announced it was becoming a for-profit news site.[citation needed]
The site is known for its conservative reporting, with the intention of publicizing stories and influence the coverage of the mainstream media, and modeled after liberal counterparts in the media such as Think Progress and Talking Points Memo.[3][4][5] The site has roots in the neoconservative wing of the Republican Party.[6] Jack Hunter, a staff member of Senator Rand Paul's office, resigned in 2013 after a Free Beacon report detailing his past as a radio shock jock known as the "Southern Avenger" who wore a luchador mask of the Confederate flag.[citation needed] The publication also broke several stories about Hillary Clinton's successful 1975 legal defense of an accused child rapist that attracted national media attention.[4][7] In May 2017, it received an award from The Heritage Foundation for its journalism.[8]

From October 2015 to May 2016, the Washington Free Beacon hired Fusion GPS to conduct opposition research on "multiple candidates" during the 2016 presidential election, including Donald Trump. The Free Beacon stopped funding this research when Donald Trump had clinched the Republican nomination.[9] Fusion GPS would later hire former British intelligence officer Christopher Steele and produce a dossier alleging links between the Trump campaign and the Kremlin. Paul Singer, a billionaire and hedge fund manager, who is a major donor to the Free Beacon, said he was unaware of this dossier until it was published by BuzzFeed News in January 2017.[10] On October 27, 2017, the Free Beacon publicly disclosed that it had hired Fusion GPS, and stated that it "had no knowledge of or connection to the Steele dossier, did not pay for the dossier, and never had contact with, knowledge of, or provided payment for any work performed by Christopher Steele."[11]

The Free Beacon came under criticism for its reporting on Fusion GPS. Three days before it was revealed that it was the Free Beacon that had funded the work by Fusion GPS, the Free Beacon wrote that the firm's work “was funded by an unknown GOP client while the primary was still going on."[12] The Free Beacon has published pieces that have sought to portray the work by Fusion GPS as unreliable "without noting that it considered Fusion GPS reliable enough to pay for its services."[12] In an editor's note, Continetti said "the reason for this omission is that the authors of these articles, and the particular editors who reviewed them, were unaware of this relationship," and that the outlet was reviewing its editorial process to avoid similar issues in the future.[13]

The commission that runs the debate switched it to virtual this morning. Trump has already come out saying he won't do it now.

I'm stunned that Trump is complaining and lying.  Simple stunned. Mellow

RE: 2020 Election - Big Boss - 10-08-2020

So Trump wants to do a rally instead. Cater to the voters he already has in pocket, instead of trying to win new voters or win back the ones he lost.

Great strategy.

POTUS doesn't have a leg to stand on in cancelling the debate. He's the one that contracted COVID.

The real issue he has is with the potential ability to mute him. His reasoning thrown in at the end of him saying he was out was "they can mute whenever they feel like it" in a virtual debate and that is the crux of the whole thing. He thinks he is "winning" the debate by screaming over everyone, and while it may play well with his entrenched base, it is off-putting to almost everyone else. He would actually be better off in a scenario where he can't do it, but his logic is that is how he wins so without it he has no interest in the debate.

The whole idea he is going to hold a rally, while potentially being COVID positive, is further showing his disregard for the virus. It could also expose him to local or state level charges depending on where this rally would be held.

Quote:Eliana Johnson, whose most recent work includes a hair-raising account of Trump’s visit to Mount Vernon, will take over a staff of 24 from the Beacon’s founding editor, Matthew Continetti.

“I want to build on the excellent work the Beacon has done and continue to train serious reporters who have a conservative outlook and an irreverent sensibility,” she said in an email. “The focus has been and will continue to be on scoops and original reporting.”

The Beacon launched in 2012 as somewhere between a traditional news organization and a high-concept prank, with a promise to “take the fight to the Left.” Alternately parodic and wire-service serious, it has broken major political news, mostly negative, about Democrats like Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris, and occasionally members of rival Republican factions, like Rand Paul; and maintained a drumbeat of national security reporting sympathetic to Israel’s government and hostile to China’s. The Beacon is privately held but has confirmed its backers include the hedge fund figure and Republican megadonor Paul Singer.

I mean citations and facts and all are considered bad by the right but hey, you do you.
