Monitoring for adverse events makes the numbers go up. If you don’t monitor then there aren’t any adverse reactions. Genius. RE: Coronavirus Information...who do you trust? - Arturo Bandini - 10-14-2020 Now that big boy had it and got the best healthcare of the world for 750$ taxes, sounds that they decided to go for "Herd Immunity". That's some alpha male moves right here, soon America will be freed from his losers and f*uckers who can't beat the COVID. Who cares about 2 or 5 millions people who can't even play golf ? RE: Coronavirus Information...who do you trust? - GMDino - 10-14-2020 (10-14-2020, 01:20 PM)bfine32 Wrote: https://news.yahoo.com/white-house-embraces-declaration-scientists-121853918.html It is still a viable theory. The issue is how many people (what percentage of the population) it would take to reach that. What I was told was normally you are looking at 30-40% but with a novel virus like this one it may be as high as 60-70%. And a vaccine will alter that too. Naturally those who wanted us to open up all along will completely agree and refuse to look at any other point other than just that one: open up. Right now, on a personal note, I'm dealing with someone going to a bar because he doesn't believe in the virus who got sick and passed it to his wife who then went to where my wife works before she knew she was a carrier. She tested positive after he got sick. My wife was not directly exposed to her but the business and some of her coworkers were. We do not know if they will close for a while, if she needs to quarantine or if I do. But its all because some people can't live by a simple rule or two. So "open it all up" sounds inviting but it has its drawbacks too. RE: Coronavirus Information...who do you trust? - Nately120 - 10-14-2020 Wake up you sheep, we need to develop a herd immunity! This is a repeat of what happened with Big Tobacco vs the scientists, Creation Science vs the scientists, Climate change deniers vs the Scientists. Throw out money--create a dispute "among scientists" and the politicians declare there is "no consensus"--so they don't adopt policies which hurt their donor's profits. EVERYONE is following "the scientists" then. The declaration’s architects include Sunetra Gupta and Gabriela Gomes, two scientists who have proposed that societies may achieve herd immunity when 10% to 20% of their populations have been infected with the virus, a position most epidemiologists disagree with. Last month, at the request of The New York Times, three epidemiological teams calculated the percentage of the country that is infected. What they found runs strongly counter to the theory being promoted in influential circles that the United States has either already achieved herd immunity or is close to doing so, and that the pandemic is all but over. That conclusion would imply that businesses, schools and restaurants could safely reopen, and that masks and other distancing measures could be abandoned. “The idea that herd immunity will happen at 10% or 20% is just nonsense,” said Dr. Christopher J.L. Murray, director of the University of Washington’s Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, which produced the epidemic model frequently cited during White House news briefings as the epidemic hit hard in the spring. The move comes amid a coronavirus outbreak at the White House that has now grown to more than 20 people, as evidence mounts that the administration did little to prevent or contain the virus’s spread. More importantly, while I agree not every scientist may be trustworthy, interesting that you'd publicly agree with Trump that not all scientists are worth listening to. I still get to respond though, right? Open forum. No guvmint here telling us we can't post! Freedom! Did I agree with Trump? Everyone does if you raise an issue to its most general level. Trump and I don't agree that the paid-for scientists are worth listening too, though. Pretty big divergence there. Not all of them are. That’s why we have peer reviews. That’s why results and conclusions should be independently reproducible. That’s why we try to build a consensus rather than listening to the fringe experts promoted by Trump and their views on alien DNA, demon sperm, and hydroxychloroquine.
