Don't mind not grabbing the TE, and DE is expensive so value is there contract wise. Maybe have Murphy rush from inside on passing situations.

The crazy thing is his comp according to NFL.COM:

NFL Comparison
Antwan Odom

Mayer had more production, but Murphy rates pretty high on the athletic freak scale. He is amost faster than Porter (4.46 to 4.51).

Both Trey and Hubbard make a lot. Backup DEs play a ton. The idea that he won't play is ridiculous. Our DE rotation is now Hendrickson, Hubbard, Murphy, Ossai + Sample. I think Gunter & Basham are history.

I also remember how awful our TEs were last year without Hurst on the field and the only change they made was replacing Hurst with a guy who missed more games in his first 4 seasons than Tyler Eifert. TE now is going to be an absolute drain on the offense's ability in 2023 anytime they're on the field.

There are going to be good TEs available in the 2nd.

And for everyone crying about Mayer, we’re not the only team needing a TE to pass on him.

Well we still have our second round pick. And there's solid guys left.

Lol, whining before the kid ever plays a play.... amateur.  And anyone thinking Washington is an elite TE needs to pick another sport to pretend to be an expert....

Oh cmon. The bengals were unable to sack the qb. OBVIOUSLY we needed help in that department. I love Hubbard and Hendrickson, but we can get better at getting to the qb on 3rd down. This will also help out our secondary.

The dude has an extremely high ceiling and is only 21. Give him a chance.

Who's he gonna get 5 sacks against this year?

Man people really get pissed when your team is good enough to draft next year's needs....

I’m guessing the fact that only 1 TE in a DEEP TE class is why they went elsewhere. There is still a good chance they get a good TE in round 2

Yeah that's what I'm thinking.  He may add 10lbs and move around even inside.

Several very good TEs left.

RE: ***2023 NFL Draft Thread*** - fumblerooski - 04-28-2023

Excited about the pick. Can never have enough pass rushers. The coaches are going to have a lot of nice skills to work with as well. WHo Dey!

RE: ***2023 NFL Draft Thread*** - Clark W Griswold - 04-28-2023

I don’t know too much about him but I won’t ever complain about another pass rusher. This is what they’ve been doing on D because they know the offense is going to be expensive.
Last year was taking Hill to replace Bates and this year is Murphy to replace Hendrickson.

RE: ***2023 NFL Draft Thread*** - WhoDeyK - 04-28-2023

The pass rush was severely lacking last year. I don’t know how anyone can get mad at this pick. And unlike our first round pick last year he’ll actually see significant snaps due to the need to keep rushers fresh.
