C-

I'd give it a D but lucky for them we're getting two bonus draftees in Jackson III and Billings. Granted, that has nothing to do with this offseason but still, it's the only bonus I've been clinging to these past several weeks

RE: What Grade Would you Give the Bengals Thus Far during the OFF-SEASON? - BURROWorBUST - 03-24-2017

I give them a C, because this is just average for our FO.

There were many reasons for Rex to go to the Pats no question.

He made the right decision. Bet he becomes a star in New England with his hands, vision, route running ability etc.

Perfect fit.

We couldn't even keep our good Lineman on the roster and wouldn't give him a starting spot when one of our backs was injured and the
other is suffering from an identity crisis. Would of taken a lot to bring Burkhead back, even if we offered him the starting spot he might of
turned us down for New England.

Those coaches know how to get the best out of their players.

I won't lie...sometimes late at night I dream of a world where the Bengals have a front office full of smart football guys who make good decisions, find the right type of players to fit the system of their no nonsense coach who can win with anything they toss out there.....

Then, the illusion shatters and I see an image of Mike Brown wearing a ball cap looking like a damn doofus and immediately must medicate with high quantities of scotch.

Seriously...look at this picture:

And there is many more...the owner of this team hasn't even mastered the art of how to correctly put a baseball hat on and we are trusting him to pick the right coaches and players...

LMAO! Looks like one of Brady's deflated ballz on his head. Hilarious

But it is also very sad. Sad

Let you know in January of 2018. Hated losing Whittworth, but no way FO should have matched that contract. Same for Zeitler. They got over paid, great for them

Ahhhh.... That's our good ol' Mikey Boy. Such a special little guy. Probably thinking of his next order at Wendy's  Smirk

Seriously, it blows my mind this guy was able to earn a law degree (although, given who his father was, I can't help but wonder if he "Tommy Boy'd" his way to that degree). Hard to believe he's a multimillionaire too. He strikes me more as the type of guy you'd find shopping for discount toothpaste at the Dollar Tree because he spent the rest of his paycheck on his certain... Bad habit  Mellow

I'll see you all in hell, folks.

I really don't see how anyone can rate this higher than a D. They had to keep one of the Olinemen for At least a year, via tag or whatever. Burk head gave more effort than any other on the whole team, according to my eye test, plus he's cheap. Pack man has just committed what his eleventh crime? Kpat was an overpay that may or may not work out o.k. The new linebacker seems like maybe a slight improvement. There's no hot seat for Marvin or any of the coaches.... as usual. To me, F-D are the only realistic choices. I struggled to say D. The more I think a out it..... D-. Non Homer, being real grade.

C- losing both starting linemen hurts.. but coming back with Dre, signing Smith and LB from Arizona.. brings them back to a C

Dre was not an overpay, you look at his ratings over the last two years and what other corners are getting no way overpay, within the market.. Zeitler was paid total top end guard.. our system does not value guards that way.. Whit major lose, though no way im paying him a 3 year contract.. you drafted two tackles.. you have to live or die with them in short/long term... Arizona LB was a solid pick (top 40 FA in most listings ).. getting Smith back cheap and moving to guard.. interesting move..

I see a C

RE: What Grade Would you Give the Bengals Thus Far during the OFF-SEASON? - Housh - 03-24-2017

In terms of making roster better I cant go with anything other than a D-. Cant be an F because Minter is an upgrade. Cant go higher than D- unless someone wants to look in the future real quick and tell me how Andre Smith plays.

Dre signing was nice but he was already on that team

D-

You statement about Smith.. can;t we say the same about Whit in three years ?  no way would i commit three years to Whit.. looking into the future there also

RE: What Grade Would you Give the Bengals Thus Far during the OFF-SEASON? - BenZoo2 - 03-24-2017

D-, only due the minter signing. Otherwise f. I think we overpayed for dre. I hope he proves worth it. I'd rather Logan Ryan and his contract. Sign sheard. I think we slightly over payed for lafell. But we can get out after one so it isn't terrible. Really think he wasn't staying here. Zeitler, I get it. But no plan b. Went to plan c with Andre. At least it's something. Whit not being tagged sucks for us.

That's my grade for now. If dre continues to improve and the young tackles are ready then this grade goes up. Minter is the only spot where we improved.

RE: What Grade Would you Give the Bengals Thus Far during the OFF-SEASON? - BengalChris - 03-24-2017

D

Reasons:
1. (-) Could have signed Zeitler during the off season last year for $9M per year for a 5 year deal. Would have secured one spot on the O-line for awhile.
2. (-) Have yet to realize that Ogbuehi isn't making it, so low balled Whitworth.
3. (no value) I can't tell if the team really wanted Kirkpatrick back that much or if it were a reaction signing because Pittsburgh was going to offer Kirkpatrick $10M per year. It's hard to figure out the thoughts as they work their way through Mikey's microscopic mental calculator.
4. (-) I don't understand the re-signing of Peerman when we are going to bring in 11 new rookies via the draft. Peerman cannot make any NFL roster because of his RB abilities, only his special teams tackling, and a lot guys can actually do that job. Burkhead stepped into that role last year and did just fine. I credit the special teams coach far more than I do Peerman. Burkhead was the better player all around. So we let the better one go and re-sign the lessor one. Why?
5. (+) Andre Smith was a good signing I think and I venture to say that he's now our best O-loneman in that he will move guys off the ball and out of the way. Something the other 4 can't seem to do very well.
6. (no value) Brought back LaFell. He did fine in his first year, but he's not a long term solution. Doesn't upgrade anything, but doesn't take anything away. He's not going to suddenly be a great #2.
7. (+) Signing Minter was an upgrade. The only upgrade signing in the free agency for the Bengals this year.

The minuses were extra big minuses while the pluses were only moderate pluses.

Considering the team had $43M in cap space to work with I expected a better effort to put a winner on the field this year.

I read somewsomewhere that he was rated as sotheomething like the 27th best cb and was now the 7th highest paid. I do understand that he won't be the 7th highest paid as the contract goes on. I just hope that he concontinues to improve to be better than what he ranks now. If he regresses or stays the same, it's not like it's an awesome deal for the team.

Should have tagged Whit for a year, easy management decision.

RE: What Grade Would you Give the Bengals Thus Far during the OFF-SEASON? - HarleyDog - 03-24-2017

I have to go F. First off, getting rid of Whit was bad bad bad. Getting rid of Zeitler was worse. He was the guy you drafted and did what you needed him to do. What could he have done better? This organization F'd that up? Letting Burkhead go was a definite F. This cat played ball better than most you've had in the organization. His heart beat the winning spirit. It pounded "play me, I will fight for it!" These 3 losses alone speak volumes on this teams philosophy of how to win in the NFL. When you let players go other teams cant wait to have, especially ones who leave a void, is basically dumb in an offensive sort of way. It's horsecrap this organization took every one of us as fools. There's no explanation for this type of BS! So, let's move on to the signings.

What have you done to make things better than what you already had but to increase the size of the wallet? This team friggin gives away awesome talent, tears us down and the gives us a glimmer of hope by signing guys who have a history? F this as well. I don't fall for it. Marvin sucks, Mike B sucks, Katie sucks, they all suck. I will do what I will have to do to hang in the trenches with this teams failures because Mike B will pass one day, Marvin will move on and Katie will do wtfe? Someday, we will have a true organization.

One day we will have an organization that takes winning seriously. One who gives a damn about you and me, you know, the people who actually spend money on this team. The people who go to games, buy the ridiculous $9 beers and pay $50 to park. The people who pay their cable bills to watch every Sunday because they cant make it to games because of whatever reason. Those who continue to face ridicule when wearing the colors to work and those who actually get tattoo's of the Bengals "B" on their bodies (what was I thinking)?

Bless those fans who have went on to other teams, although I can't. Bless those players who have done their best here but were moved on, I will cheer for you. Yet as far as this organization? F, F, F, F it! Is that enough F's?

Why do we have to live with failed draft picks? We just need to recognize that they were bad picks, replace them and move on. Why let them fester in place and continue to let the team down? That just hurts the whole team.
