Name something you hate about liberals...and conservatives..... - jmccracky - 07-24-2015

Ok, name something you hate about the people you agree with. For example, if you are a liberal, let us know one thing, or several, that you can't stand about other liberals. Conservatives, do the same. Moderates, stay out of it! lol! (Kidding!) Comment on your own political affiliation. It is too easy to comment about the "other side". I will go first.

I am a proud liberal. But I do agree with some conservative stances. The one thing that I hate about my fellow liberal brethren, is political correctness. No one can take a joke anymore. Now, mind you, there are times in which you should be pc out of respect. However, I think pc-ness has gotten way out of hand. I know several liberals that feel the same as I do.

Liberals who are not anti-authoritarian enough and/or who buy into the whole "big government" shoehorn and actually believe that that is what it's about.

Conservatives who lack critical thinking skills and make decisions based upon emotion rather than logic annoy me.

Shouldn't that go for both parties?

Today Fox was running a banner about how Iran executed 700 prisoners so far this year. I'm assuming it was part of a larger attempt to criticize the nuclear deal. I had this thought right after I saw the banner:

Do I find it more funny that the same liberals who love calling conservatives 'racists sexist homophobe bigots' downplay Middle Eastern countries literally killing people just for being gay (or atheist and so forth)

or

Do I find it more funny that conservatives are acting as if they are appalled by the executions numbers as if they wouldn't support a bill that called for executing 700 of America's worst convicts every July 4th as part of the an extravagant Independence Day celebration.

It certainly does, but I find that the emotional arguments for liberalism are more compelling(altruism, co-operation, harmony with nature, peace) than those for conservatism(jealousy, "me against the world", winner take all, fear, greed, peace through strength)

I guess I consider myself a liberal....although I think I have more conservative views on a lot of things than a lot of the other liberals that post here.

I think the worst thing about both parties, is the inability to see the other side at all. Moderates hardly exist at all anymore.

If we're speaking of certain issues, the worst thing about liberals is that they're ok with a woman murdering her child as long as he isn't out of the womb yet. It's called women's rights rather than murder, and I don't get it. Really, from the rest of liberal's beliefs, I would think that the protection of life would be a paramount issue to them, but it isn't in the case of abortion.

Good stuff. I don't understand how some liberals can support unliberal societies. It's like they have guilt and are afraid to say anything. For example, there is a rise in liberals not liking Israel, a very liberal nation. I can admit that I could be off base here, but I have seen other liberals agree with me. Namely Rosanne Barr and Bill Maher.

Libertarians - the die hards who refuse to yield any ground on important topics that would actually give them a chance to win an election.

Agreed on all accounts. ThumbsUp

I am a proud liberal, but I have conservative stances too. People are afraid to admit they are liberal anymore. I'm not. But I am not afraid to call out liberal thinking that I personally think is BS or overboard. You are right.......people these days seem to just side with one side. If the other side is saying one thing, they automatically disagree with it. I hate that. I see that with conservatives too. I see it on here by both sides.

Would you consider yourself a Liberal Libertarian, or a Conservative Libertarian? Most Libertarians I know personally, seem to have views from both sides. For example, one of my buddies is a staunch conservative when it comes to government. But is more liberal than I am with social issues. Is this the case with most libertarians? Or the opposite?

You have several kinds of libertarians.
You have the really stuck up kind who don't accept anything but those loyal to the libertarian doctrine (they think they are better than repubs or dems but arent) and you have those who got fed up with their original party affiliation and moved to libertarianism.

I guess personally, I'd be more conservative libertarian. I'm morally opposed to abortion but don't support outlawing it. I don't do drugs (anymore) but I support legalization.
I'm for gay marriage.

I'm more conservative on things like immigration, social programs and war*

*I supported going after bin Laden, still do. But going into Iraq....not so much.

I am Conservative. Comes from a life in the Military. Actually, I am the only one in my Family. Back in 2005 Bush went to Mongolia and I was part of a detail that provided security. When I got back one of the first question my Uncles asked was "Why?"

I suppose of the hot-topic issues I have a problem with on the conservative approach is gun control.

Every firearm should be registered (not taxed) and mandatory classes should be required within the first 6 months of ownership.

I'm proud to be a liberal, for sure.  Everyone should be proud of their beliefs, and if not, they should re-work them.  I do take careful consideration when taking stances on big issues though, and it seems like most people, liberals and conservatives alike are bound by the D or the R.  Once they see which side agrees with what, their mind is already made up.

Agreed. And spot on. ThumbsUp

I consider myself a conservative.  The biggest problem I have, is with elected officials failing to live up to the platform on which they ran their candidacy.  (I guess that could hold true for both parties)  It seems that the biggest motivation of any elected official that makes it to Washington, is to stay in Washington, let their constituents be damned..

With conservatives? How everyone who doesn't share your exact views is a liberal.

With liberals? How everyone who doesn't share your exact views is a conservative.

RE: Name something you hate about liberals...and conservatives..... - StLucieBengal - 07-24-2015

Everyone has a desire to be right but they think their way is the only way. That goes for any close minded person. Doesn't matter if they are liberal, conservative, or progressive.

Fact is that classic liberals and conservatives are more in line than either is with progressives. But they are too worried about whether they agree on everything even though they probably agree on 80%+ of the issues.
