This story was first reported in April, so whether it was actually Trumps idea is unlikely. I for one have never heard that from him.

It's not the worst idea in the world, the wall itself is, but if we end up that deep in might as well try something positive. I do worry that it would add additional complexity and possible construction issues.

There's already environmental concerns with a 50 foot wall spanning hundreds of miles. Not sure solar panels will alleviate that concern. Maybe the secure border nutjobs will pay for those solar panels on top of the tens of billions for the wall.

I believe I mentioned solar panels and the possibility of the wall containing a Musk hyperloop, back when we first discussed the wall. No check from Trump yet though.

A lot of the "we need a wall" propaganda has been based off how violent people at the border are, smashing up vehicles and destroying buildings. If that's more than propaganda (and I don't think most it is true, why would someone sneaking across a border for work take time to go find and damage stuff), then wouldn't they just damage the panels?

Benton, obviously to prevent vandalism we would place the solar panels on the US (north) side of a wall with southern exposure so the solar panels are in the shade of the wall most of the day to maximize the inefficiency of such a plan.

Well, at the rate solar farms roast birds alive, a border wall made of them would certainly reduce/eliminate the need to actually have guards for the wall. One step shy of sharks with freaking laser beams on their head.

If they did build it into the border, I guess you could go from San Diego, and then just stretch it up the Gulf a bit to Houston. But yeah, that'd be more or less a road to nowhere.

Or better yet, they can program the panels with laser technology so that when one panel is being mess with, the others quickly pop out and aim at the criminal. Then with the stored up energy just vaporize them so there isnt a trace. Then go back to looking like a harmless solar panel again. Its humane and efficient!
