Austrian elections?! - hollodero - 10-13-2017

Now I do know we're not quite as important as France or Germany, but the US also cared about the Dutch election, so that the Austrian election this Sunday isn't even mentioned anywhere in the US media or here frankly is quite an offense. We should consider sanctions as retaliation. Who do you think we are.

And all that while our own Geert Wilders might actually win... while they lose everywhere else. This is it, this will be the result that was feared - or hoped for - in all these other places. And all we get for fulfilling that urge for upset is ignorance. Why do you treat us like that?

RE: Austran elections?! - TheLeonardLeap - 10-13-2017

Easy bet would be that if you gave a blank map of Europe (without even country borders drawn on) over 80% wouldn't be able to point to Austria.

Git gud, Austria, or nobody cares. Lol

In the US,more like 95% wouldn't be able to point to it. Add borders and you'd get to 80%.

Yeah, most likely. Then again, who would even want/need to? After all, everyone knows that Austria is just Lichtenstein's sewer.   Ninja

Are the polls showing FPÖ that much of a lead? Last I saw, ÖVP was ahead, with SPÖ and FPÖ close together but behind, and SPÖ a little further ahead of FPÖ.

Or are you saying that Strache will win, but the FPÖ will lose seats? I can't really tell by your commentary.

I would be surprised if most Americans could point out anything other than France, Spain, Germany, UK, and Italy. Hell, I would be surprised if the majority of them were able to pick those from a map without any boarder.

Well... polls in Austria are always way off in current years. Really way off.

ÖVP is ahead, that seems to be quite possible. The reason for that is them taking lots of FPÖ stances. You heard about our forbidding the covering of the face? That's an attempt to weaken FPÖ by taking their anti-muslim stance. Which, again, might just turn things around in favor of ÖVP, but I do not consider that a given.

We have an untranslateable saying that means people rather go to the blacksmith than the blacksmithling. I do not know if that's the right diminutive as you don't seem to have a general rule about that, but you get what the saying says.

That's a fair question. I couldn't name a reason other than you'd want to know where all that Red bull is coming from that poisons your bodies and brains.

Liechtenstein, please. Prince Liechtenstein would be mad seeing his name spelled so wrong. And when he's mad, there's even more sewage, so please. And yes, they have a prince there ruling things.

RE: Austrian elections?! - Nebuchadnezzar - 10-13-2017

Ulrich Von Liechtenstein, the defender of Italian Virginity.

I can do Western Europe pretty well, but once you move East of Austria I'm in trouble.

OK, give it a try... no cheating though. Which country is Austria?

I know! I know! But, geography of German speaking countries is a part of German language courses, so...yeah.

Dark yellow above Italy. The shape is unique.

Well, every state's shape is, except Colorado. But contrary to what was said on Big Bang Theory, the shape does not resemble a penis. Not a healthy one at least.

That's fake news. And literally where they are stemming from.

I was totally going to bring that up, too! LOL

Also, Wyoming is pretty square, as well. If you took them out of context and put them side by side, you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference.

I forgot about that.  You're right it doesn't look like one, but the shape always stood out to me.

Borders, no borders. Austria is easy to identify. It’s the biggest island on the far right side of the map/globe.
