Trump's trade war - GMDino - 07-06-2018 I have a serious question, maybe someone smarter than me can answer it: Does the his new tariffs on China include his clothing line and MAGA hats as well as Ivanka Trump's clothing line? I ask because I'd think that would be a yuge conflict of interest if they are not. Again, none of his supporters care. They don't care if they lose their farms over Trump's trade policies because "he's their guy", but I still wonder. Raw materials and parts for manufacturing and agriculture seem to be the emphasis. Here is the list of items affected (scroll about 1/5 of the way down to page 14 to the 'annex'): https://ustr.gov/sites/default/files/files/Press/Releases/301FRN.pdf RE: Trump's trade war - Nately120 - 07-06-2018 I'm pretty sure the official maga hats are made in the USA. In all fairness, the term "made in America" isn't exactly a rock solid catchall. I recall reading that the materials are imported and the hats are likely assembled here, which is better than being imported here fully-assembled....but it's likely the amount of American labor that goes into making them has been reduced in order to maximize profits AND get that coveted "MADE IN THE USA" token on there. So, "made elsewhere but assembled in America, possibly in great part by machine and not a person" is more likely the way to put it. Again, better than nothing, but I'd wager those hats don't exactly bleed red white and blue. Meh, Trump-bashing has been going on for decades. It was a serious question because the POTUS and his daughter make a great amount of money from their products that are manufactured in China. That's not bashing..that's questioning. It is a logical question. Apparently questioning our leaders was more of a patriotic thing to do when Obummer was in office and now it's taken on more of a "bashing" quality. Oh well. The question raised by the OP is a legitimate one, as rumors have it that quite a bit of money is involved with Chinese made apparel being sold here associated with the name of Trump. Excluding a tariff seems to be a conflict of interest. Is this something with which you disagree? With around 1300 listed items, it could be interpreted as an exclusion when clothing and shoes were left off. Honestly I don't know the rationale behind it. Could be a coincidence. RE: Trump's trade war - jj22 - 07-24-2018 Today Trump: "Tariffs are Great!". Also Today Tax payers will foot the bill 12Billion (enough to save Social Security for another 30 years mind you), for Trumps failed Tariffs gamble. https://www.wsj.com/articles/trump-says-tariffs-are-the-greatest-1532437480?mod=e2tw And by the end of this game Trump is playing we will likely be over 100 billion in the hole as tax payers. If Tariffs are the greatest, why do we need bailouts? No i know what you meant, i just find that hard to believe. I mean I thought we spent somewhere approaching $1 trillion on SS. I couldn't read the article because I don't want to sign up.
