The "N" word, just like any other "bad" word, is only truly bad if used in a hateful or derogatory way, IMO.

No. If it was, N.W.A. wouldn't have abbreviated themselves...
But it is OK for white boys to sing/rap it in a lyric, because otherwise it totally screws it up. Go to a kareoke bar and try substitiing "N Word" in. Throws the rhythm all off!
