PFF OL grades through week 4 - ochocincos - 10-05-2020

Jonah Williams - 70.1 (75.2 pass, 55.8 run)
Michael Jordan - 54.3 (47.3 pass, 56.0 run)
Trey Hopkins - 60.3 (77.0 pass, 53.1 run)
Alex Redmond - 54.6 (47.4 pass, 55.9 run)
Bobby Hart - 67.3 (53.9 pass, 80.0 run)

XSF - 75.5 (62.5 pass, 75.2 run) - Will he take a starting spot from Jordan or Redmond once he's back? I'd like to think so.

Jordan the weakest link?  Pretty sure that is not what the hope/expectation was.

Prior to week 4, he was not getting noticed as much because the RG spot was so terrible (Johnson and Price are way worse).
But with Redmond in, there might be more of a microscope on Jordan moving forward.

I can understand the optimism that Turner has for Jordan, but he was a 4th round pick for a reason. He wasn't ready to start and was originally expected to be groomed behind Boling. But then Boling retired and Jordan was kind of forced. He's learning how to swim by throwing him in the deep end. Given Jordan's draft status, I'm giving him more time to develop into a good player before I write him off, but I'd still look to find a better starter instead of him in the meantime.

Personally, I would go with XSF at LG and Redmond at RG for the rest of this season once XSF is ready to come back. Let Jordan learn from the sideline for some games.

I'll admit, I'm a bit surprised about Hart.

This must be a mistake, the Jungle board experts cry weekly he is a load of crap???????????????????? Oh and he is a very low paid veteran right tackle.

RE: PFF OL grades through week 4 - bfine32 - 10-05-2020

Strange that Trey ranked so high on Pass pro; yet, his hold cost us 6 points

RE: PFF OL grades through week 4 - Wes Mantooth - 10-05-2020

Agree with the concern with Jordan. With double digit starts last season, along with 4 more this season, it just doesn't seem like he's getting any better.

Don't get me wrong, I don't expect a 4th round pick to magically turn into a Pro Bowler overnight. But I do expect players to progress and improve as they get more time under their belt.

For whatever reason, that doesn't seem to be happening yet. Fingers crossed it does, because if we can plug him as a decent starter for 2 more years on his rookie deal, that really helps out with the cap.

He's been improving every week.

This is cumulative grade, not just the Jags game.

To be fair to the Jungle board experts, a pass pro grade of 53 isn't that far from crap.

RE: PFF OL grades through week 4 - bfine32 - 10-05-2020

XSF is eligible to come off IR this week and most of his experience is at LG.

Thx. Threw me off because Alex was on there but Fred and Billy were not.

I love PFF stats but something that makes me say "hhhhmmm.."

Trey's Pass score is 1.8 points higher than Jonah's and Jonah's run is 2.7 higher than Trey's; a difference of 0.9. But Jonah's total is 9.8 points higher than Trey's. This despite we throw much more than we run.

I didn't include Fred and Billy because they've been shared in other threads and are not starters as of this past game.
I only included XSF because he was a starter prior to injury, he had not been demoted like Johnson and Price.

Interesting.

Hart is our best run blocker, and a good one (80!). He's a much better run blocker than pass blocker, where he struggles. I wonder if that run block grade would hold up as a guard?

Jonah & Trey are our best pass blockers. And are MUCH better pass blockers than run blockers. Where they both struggle.

Jordan & Redmond are not very good at either, but are markedly better run blockers.

XSF is the only guy who is above 60 on both metrics. But still a much better run blocker.

X will take the starting RG spot back when he's healthy and Redmond will be the primary backup.

RE: PFF OL grades through week 4 - Dean_Gilberry95 - 10-05-2020

I’m all for seeing Bobby with a good run grade, but why was it every time Mixon was stuffed it was always Hart standing above the tacklers all by his lonesome?

RE: PFF OL grades through week 4 - fredtoast - 10-05-2020

PFF individual player grades are a joke.

It's a marked improvement from the 43.7 he posted last year, though, so he's trending in the right direction.  He's probably a year away from being a quality starter, though.
