The play was a RPO, so he probably thought the ball had been handed off.

Run it on third and short Zac and if they stop it then run/sneak it again on 4th down.
FGs won’t cut it and the D has not stopped them this half.
I think they have left way too many points out there to win.

No it hasn't. It is a penalty to throw the ball away while in the in-between the tackles. Whether you throw it out of bounds, into the ground, or into the stands..

Pretty sure dropping a wide open TD pass and a monumentally dumb 4th and 6 inches play call at the end of 1st half have contributed to the current score.
