Austria elects far right leader - StLucieBengal - 05-22-2016 https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.rt.com/document/5741b72cc4618871578b459c/amp?client=safari# Another one bites the dust. Thanks to the EU immigration and refugee policy. Quote: Eurosceptic, anti-immigration Freedom Party candidate Norbert Hofer won Austria’s Presidential election with 51.9 percent of the vote, official data from the Ministry of the Interior states. The figures could change when postal ballots are counted. RE: Austria elects far right leader - BigPapaKain - 05-22-2016 Hate and xenophobia win again. Yay progression. RE: Austria elects far right leader - BmorePat87 - 05-22-2016 I was hoping it was a mistake and it was actually "Austria elects far out leader" RE: Austria elects far right leader - StLucieBengal - 05-22-2016 (05-22-2016, 09:13 PM)BigPapaKain Wrote: Hate and xenophobia win again. Yay progression. The only ones to blame are the EU. They allowed this an are now feeling the pressure. Cameron didn't want an EU vote but he had to promise one to keep ukip at bay. Now Brexit is leading. We are heading for an interesting time.... Plus let's not forget the Russians have been loaning these parties money for campaigns. The balance of Europe could flip quickly to pro Russian interests. RE: Austria elects far right leader - Bengalzona - 05-22-2016 The last dude I met who was from Austria was quite a headcase. He was a neo-Nazi with an extreme allergy to the sun living here in Phoenix, of all places. He could only go outside or work at night. Him and his wife got a house just before the housing crisis started, took out a second mortgage on it, and then took off back to Austria leaving the house to be foreclosed upon. Can't say he was a very good representative of the Austrian people. At least I hope not! ![]() RE: Austria elects far right leader - Belsnickel - 05-22-2016 (05-22-2016, 10:01 PM)Bengalzona Wrote: The last dude I met who was from Austria was quite a headcase. Austria brings up four things for me: Wolfgang Puck, the von Trapp family, Arnold, and Hitler. Needless to say, my opinions on the country are mixed. ![]() RE: Austria elects far right leader - Bengalzona - 05-22-2016 (05-22-2016, 10:08 PM)Belsnickel Wrote: Austria brings up four things for me: Wolfgang Puck, the von Trapp family, Arnold, and Hitler. And now, unfortunately, that list also includes "Creepy Austrian Guy", as I have come to call him. ![]() RE: Austria elects far right leader - StLucieBengal - 05-22-2016 They have been handing out pepper spray to Austrian women for a while now in Vienna. The far right was coming because they seem to be the only ones not paralyzed by political correctness. RE: Austria elects far right leader - Belsnickel - 05-23-2016 http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-36362505 It seems like the mail in ballots have turned the tide. Quote:Independent candidate Alexander Van der Bellen has won Austria's presidential election, preventing Norbert Hofer from becoming the EU's first far-right head of state, the BBC has been told. RE: Austria elects far right leader - Belsnickel - 05-23-2016 Hofer has posted a concession post on Facebook, we shall see what comes, still not official official yet. I've seen lots of announcements that Hofer has lost. Apparently it will be "officially" announced around 11:00 AM EDT (17:00 in Austria). There will be a recount, and there will be lots of cries of shenanigans. Which, you know, I'm okay with. Questioning things when the difference is less than one percentage point is damn important. I don't think there will be any violence, though. Of course, I could be wrong. I don't pay much attention to the goings on in Austria because, well, it's Austria. ![]() RE: Austria elects far right leader - Griever - 05-23-2016 (05-23-2016, 12:58 PM)Belsnickel Wrote: There will be a recount, and there will be lots of cries of shenanigans. If they're putting money into campaigns, they'd have no qualms funding civil unrest, following the defeat of those they supported. Kind of sounds like the U.S. handbook for Iran, eh ? ![]() RE: Austria elects far right leader - Benton - 05-23-2016 (05-23-2016, 01:04 PM)Rotobeast Wrote: I guess my cause of worry is the Russian funding.
