Kind of sad that it took legal action, but still nice to see a bunch of privileged California surfer dudes having to submit to the same regulations as the rest of the US.

If only the federal government took the same approach with ranchers. Let's jackhammer some cattle when they graze on public lands without paying fees, or at least kick out armed protesters occupying public buildings.

Good call IMO

Fun fact I used to be HEAVILY into surfing.  I know strange for a Cincy kid.  Though I grew up here, I lived in VA beach for 8yrs and got into the sport thanks to a Navy buddy who was from Hilton Head SC.  Localism and territorialism is real in the surfing community and I thoroughly detested it.  It's not as much of a problem on the east coast as it is in Hawaii or the west coast (due to better breaks on the west coast) but I've witnessed it first hand.  Stupid people being stupid.

I really hope to move back to the coast one day though.

What they should have done with these surfers is sit up a roadblock with an established kill-zone and then lured them into the trap.

The textbook example of burning the spot.

That approach is normally reserved for armed terrorists. At least, all the occasions I've heard of.

Hah, I've heard about them using on folks that did what you described. Terrorism was not even in the equation of the unbiased onlooker and U.S.Law. Hell, I think I read where some weren't even guilty of trespassing. But some like to make assumptions of the law.
