There is still data that can be obtained. There are still statistics that can be run and models created to account for these things. And did you not notice my mention of other countries? I haven't abandoned my logic at all, but that's because I understand how this research works and can be done.

That is a very interesting issue but it does not belong in this discussion. It is just a lame attempt at distraction. owning a gun is a voluntary choice. No one is in favor of people being forced to buy and register guns.
When deciding if a regulation on a fundamental right is justified courts often use 'balancing tests". Forcing all citizens to submit to a DNA registration is much more extreme than requiring people who make a voluntary choice to possess dangerous weapons to be held responsible for them.
