This deal is hard to get. Why would the largest contract in history come easy to the Bengals. History says this will be a very tough negotiated contract. Both sides haven’t reached an agreement….obviously
What history says that?

Is there ever an argument on whether a contract is an extension or a brand new contract? Is it possible Joe wants five years starting now? On the other hand it would be impossible for the Bengals to fit that into the salary cap this year.

Do an incentive laden deal. Base salary 10 million. Bonuses of 1 million per victory and 1 million per touchdown scored by the team. And 10 million per Lombardi. All guaranteed…

There's no way to realistically budget for salary cap with that.
Also according to your proposal, that would be $72m last year.

I know. But it would make the league throw a fit which would be funny.

Why would the league throw a fit that we single handily destroyed any chance of us being successful? Lol

FALSE. No team with Joe Burrow at QB has zero chance of being successful.
I say we give him so much that we have to surround him with XFL level talent. And I mean the 2001 XFL...get HE HATE ME on the phone.

LMAO, so you waited two days to come back, but missed where I acknowledged the theory was incorrect?
By the way, it wasn't my theory to begin with, I just acknowledged it could be plausible for one reason only. Might wanna take it up with Nate.
No, there'll be none of that, it's a message board, people discuss speculation. Relax.
Why would it be tough? Do you not remember cheap ass 2000s Mike Brown giving Carson Palmer the richest contract at the time?

Good title to this thread as it will be right at some point.
Much better than Zim Whodey claiming back on April 9 that the Higgins deal is done: "Got deal done. Now gotta get 9 done."

I know you were joking around, but the reason big incentive-laden deals kind of suck is because the max with all the incentives has to be reserved on the cap just in case it happens.
So for all intents and purposes, you'd really hamstring the rest of the team cap-wise just in case incentives were hit.

Deal seems far less likely now then it did back in February.
At least before we could tell ourselves they were waiting for Jackson, Hurst, Herbert to get deals done.... And that made sense.

With all those done, not having Joe signed makes no sense. There's something we are missing I guess.

Right. If you would have said back in February all those deals would have been done and we are here a week before the season and there is no sign of a deal even imminent then we'd definitely would have thought something had fell apart in negotiations.

Thumbs down my post if you want but if you feel better about the deal getting done now then you did in February, please share whatever it is you are on.

If we don't get Burrows extension done before the season the media hoopla around it for the next year is going to be vomit inducing.

It’ll be their pre-draft narrative about the him and the Bengals all over again.
