If a prominent politician tweeted a picture of an elderly white man pummeled by "the blacks," there would indeed be a shitstorm over an apparently racialized defense of the 2nd Amendment, protests that no one mentioned "race" followed by claims of 'reverse' racsim.

Here I think it is just a guy sharing a meme he found that made a point about guns and protection.

Dill saw exactly what I saw. Furthermore, I only suggested if your message is about the 2nd Amendment then be more aware of the message the images convey so your audience isn’t distracted from your point.

Sure we are supposed to be equal. But in fact "all lives" don't matter.  There is a supremacist element who blame blacks for most crime, believing it inherent to their nature. That is a kind of race based hate. They love pictures of black "thugs" beating whites, especially helpless whites, as that stokes racial division.

People who speak publicly and run for office usually want to take "optics" into account. But you are not a politician, just a guy posting a meme on thread--a meme he didn't make.  Breech saw the potential interpretation (what he saw was there). It could even have been crafted in there by the guy who made the meme.

But I think it's exactly as you say. You saw "mobs" on television and in irratation posted a meme about self defense that caught your eye. You don't have a publicist and weren't thinking about the optics.

There are videos of a white protester being sucker punched in the back of the head by a white counter protester while a law enforcement officer looks on in Bethel, Ohio.

Screen shot that as an example of crime and it would be a good place to start to eliminate any unintended nonverbal messages about race.

So I guess white on white violence is the only visually acceptable memes that can be shared to avoid any unintended nonverbal messages.

If self protection against home violence is the message, then yes. Good rule to stick by, probably for another generation.

However, that video of an armed "biker gang" turning out to harass a protest against police violence could serve other purposes, especially if it establishes that police in this case choose not to protect peaceful, unarmed protestors.
