Neither one of those is permanent in the same way altering your body is due to a subjective sense of self. With marriage, you can get divorced, and with military service you can finish your tour or be discharged. In both cases you are returned to pretty much the same state (physically) that you were prior to your decision. This is, of course, assuming you were not killed or wounded in the military. And yes, mentally you will be different, but you are always mentally different as time passes and you accumulate life experiences. Therefore, I don't think those are particularly good analogies in this case.
