I actually find this not unlikely at all... he's thinking Sewell and is told they want to go Chase.  He asks "well, what about the line?" and hears "Carman Jackson" whom he's know jack-all about.  Who does he reach out to? - the guy he's known for decades.

Even less unlikely ... that Alexander uses it in an interview to pump up both his ego and profile.  I mean, credit to the guy for being a top coach for a very long time but he did/does seem to have a massive ego.
