Again with the stop-gap measures, why don't you want Congress to do its job and update the laws? An emergency is a temporary measure that will be tied up in court. Declaring an emergency doesn't stop asylum seekers who are LEGALLY presenting themselves for refuge. It doesn't fix the immense backlog of asylum cases that prevents prompt adjudication.
Republicans want to whine about the border but want no part in actually trying to fix it. It is more politically expedient for them to exploit it. Pass the buck to the President that Congress wants to blame instead of doing their job and passing legislation. That would really screw up their bogus politically motivated impeachment of Mayorkas wouldn't it?
