There certainly is something that screams "repressed *****-eroticism" about certain aspects of ultra conservatism. Being in love with handsome Hollywood cowboys like Reagan, being protected from the bad guys by Eisenhower or Daddy GW Bush, swooning over the tough bad boy attitude and swagger of Trump and Putin, waving your big ol' guns and stuffing yourself with meat, etc.
Add that to the way men kiss and hold hands and have sex with each other "but it doesn't count" in the Middle East and you just have one gay ol' time with conservatism! I guess you don't need gay marriage when you just exercise a little bit of homosexuality in so many other aspects of life. Just spread it thin and call it manliness...er, not that there is anything sexy about manliness. Yuh oh!
