Let's not even get into what parents do to be on the right AAU team.

You are talking about reasonable parents doing highlight reels to get exposure.   I am talking about the vast majority of the AAU culture.  The big time AAU culture where a sponsorship from adidas matters.     And these neighborhood brokers are the gate keepers to recruiting.    It's a completely different world than the things you are talking about.    These parents don't concern themselves with academic pursuits or scholarships.   To them the only sure thing is athletics.

So these parents who don't give a shit about academics or scholarships are going to force their sons to undergo hormone replacement therapy while going through puberty which could result in life long medical and psychological problems in addition to being subjected to the social stigma by people like yourself so they can get a 100K scholarship to pursue academic pursuits which you claim they aren't interested in anyway?  In other words, their ultimate goal is something they don't give a shit about. That's really stupid, but doesn't even crack you Top 10 of Stupid.
