One thing Trump understands is there's no such thing as bad press.
If he renounced this endorsement, it's over and done with old news. By pretending not to know anything about the guy, people are still talking about it, talking about Trump.
His base doesn't read this and think "Trump is a racist, I can't support him". All they see is a guy continuing to defy the establishment. He's playing the media like a fiddle. I obviously don't think much of Trump, but he's clearly a savant at branding and self-promotion.
Once Trump has served enough kool-aid to his blind followers, he'll roll out a new flavor for the general. Just watch.
