There are many factors that go into sentencing guidelines.  The Perpetrature in this case was only 18 at the time so he apparently got soem credit for that.  He also had no previous convictions.  He did not use excessive force or cause any bodily injuries.

This is far from the worst case of child rape that I have heard about.

I don't think raping kids is a good thing by any means, but it often feels like every time something like this happens people rush to dream up the most severe punishment they'd like to see in some sort of contest to show everyone they hate child rape the most.

Personally, I think this guy should be waterboarded for 23 hours a day until he dies of old age and anyone who disagrees with me loves pedophiles.
