It's not just the right. To be honest, one of the most infamous authoritarians in history was a moderate. Civil liberties and rights are typically a concern of progressive thinkers, but over time there have been different issues packaged with them and it has flopped all over the place. It's just that right now the GOP has moved into a place where they aren't as converned with individual liberties and rights.
