As suspected, this case has prompted investigations and a House vote by the GOP on sanctuary cities:

It does appear this is getting some bipartisan support; as Senator Feinstien, D-Calif. announced they were crafting legislation requiring ICE to be notified of release if requested.
Surprisingly not a whole lot of talk about pill use, it is mostly about immigration reform.
