No, broadband isn't a "right" but in the "greatest country God himself ever created"™ I think we should have internet access made available to everyone. I know, I know, there's no profit in doing things to help people. Money > people is the mantra in the US. But heaven forbid we help a poor kid get a leg up because he might watch a movie too.
I think the teachers should be able to negotiate their own contracts individually. That way the top teachera get paid their worth and the bad teaChers get fired or paid poorly. Would also be a way for parents to see how schools value their talent.
There are loads of places with free wifi. Plus you can get a hotspot from any cell phone company. There is no need for broadband. And it's cheap enough they can budget accordingly.
